Lady Griz vs. SUU

Wow...I know there's injuries and illness but if this is the offense we have in the future to establish shots we better recruit a one on one player. Pickens might help and Frolich will be good with proper coaching and more weight room (she definitely trying) but Jordan S. needs to figure out her role instead of as just a passer and wait in the wings for a hope I make it 3 pointer. Not a good showing.

First time since the year before Robin Selvig was hired that the Lady Griz have endured three straight losing seasons. I feel like Kent will have a very difficult decision on his hands and quite frankly I'm on the fence about whether Shannon should stay as head coach or not.

As for the game itself, gotta give SUU a lot of credit for coming of the gate fast and not letting off the gas pedal, so to speak. Every time UM went on a run to make the game closer, SUU made the plays stop any rally UM would try to make. They really shut down Jace and made UM try to beat them with their other players, and losing Stockholm late in the first half really hurt UM tremendously.

Southern Utah, 8-22 going into this game and 4-16 in conference. Only 2 wins in their prior 15 games (1 was against Montana).

Ouch.

Schweyen clanks a 3, and the ladies foul. That will probably do it.

Pathetic! Gabi and Abby sit on the bench and the coach thinks she can win with inexperienced freshmen who shoot 1 for 10 from the three and have no defense!!! Coaching lost that game!!!

Couldn’t agree more! Were both Gabi and Abby sick? Or maybe a strategy to get the chosen ones experience for next year after throwing in the towel.

Well, this is the second game in the past week where Shannon favored her own daughter over Gabi. Against PSU, Gabi was taken out early in the second quarter and never returned for the rest of the game and the coaches daughter played the rest of the half. This was after Gabi committed 3 turnovers in 3 consecutive possessions which certainly pissed the coach to no end.

Now this game, the coaches daughter plays 35 minutes to Gabi's 15 minutes. Gabi was suffering from the worst case of the flu bug needing IV fluids before the game even started. Gabi certainly didn't shoot very well going 1 for 5, but at least she got 4 rebounds during the 15 long miserable minutes the coach forced her to play in (which was 15 more minutes she should have played in), it doesn't appear the coaches daughter came close to getting even one rebound. Lady Griz were totally dominated on the boards.

I strongly support this Montana women's team and its coaching staff. I've made what I consider are strong, statistically based cases for this team in at least two other threads & I'll let them speak for my beliefs. One other thing that is really haunting me about the lynch mob on egriz right now: Shannon still stands in the Montana record books as THE outstanding Montana women's player. She also spent years as coach Selvig's head assistant. Isolated, they are not equal to what Shaun Rainey just posted on Twitter. Yes... unreal. Again, I support this Montana women's team, coach Schweyen and her entire staff. Go Montana.

I realize Shannon is an icon here at UM because of her playing days, as well she should be, but I think it might be tough to keep her after three straight losing seasons.

Yes... unreal, but not surprising I guess.

Michael Jordan sucked as a coach, being a great player doesn’t mean you can coach

F*ck you Payton.

Sincerely,

GJ, I respectfully disagree. Everybody who was hurt was out most of the season. At this point in the year, the freshman are more like sophomores game experience wise.

Also, everyone in the rotation has played long enough together that it is very baffling how lost they look on offense and defense for big stretches. I support any staff and players and I support this one, but I wouldn't be surprised if another direction was taken.

Sure the stats show that they're maybe playing a bit better and more efficient, but for 3 years the team is consistently been lost on offense, defense and has been out-coached for long stretches in many games no matter who is playing.Yes, coach was a fantastic player and was obviously a good assistant coach, but that hasn't appeared to translate to the head coaching job. Some folks are better as assistants rather than head coaches. There's nothing wrong with that.

TrueGriz, it was just listed that Harrington was so dehydrated before the game she had to get IV fluids. She was one of the gals suffering from the flu. She also took a handful of bad shots and didn't seem to look like her usual self on the court this evening.

I realized that after I posted that. But then, it seems to me, she should not have played at all.

I thought about coming back to delete the post but it may be to late for that.

Ehh, you could always edit it and make your update bolded.

My thoughts are a three year span of below average play.

When you lose to a middle of the pack Arizona team by 50, lose to crappy SUU twice in 2 weeks and 6 of the 32 wins in the last three years are vs the frontier conference it’s time to move on.

Also very few wins against teams that are above average

Yes Shannon’s been dealt a short hand with injuries this and the last few years but looking forward she loaded her team this year (and next) with local girls who couldn’t win a state championship with amazing talent.🤔 (Not talking about Pickens...that will be seen) They’re getting experience lately at the expense of possibly more deserving teammates but they’re not contributing what we need this so maybe it’s time to look objectively at where this program is gong.

Unbelievable whining ... nothing short of sick and vicious. We start out with half a team, then lose two more of our best!! Great game by Shannon and the girls considering all that ... one that should be bringing out support and amazement at how well they did in this game under the worst circumstances possible. The "fans" on this site are truly a pack of disgusting, little dwarves.

Being a great player does not always equate to being a great coach. I believe many on this board have let that cloud their judgement.
