When I asked that, nearly three years ago, there were many posts in response, nearly all of them in denial of the the obvious. Things have gotten much worse. I know recruiting budgets are low, and opportunities come from out side of Missoula for many, but Montana has a solid high school program for lady bball and it still seems out of the grasp of the present staff...Every team has down times, but not all last years with no upside in sight. Something has to change..is it a money issue? I doubt it. Is it the coach? Maybe...he doesn't shoot the ball, but teaches when and how, and where...I do know UM is a very slow and predictable team, year in, year out...and most outstanding, bball players would prefer something else, so they go to places that offer what they want to play.
No. I played with lady volleyball players
It is not coaching. At least when it comes to shooting. If it was, the Lady Griz would have been bad shooters throughout the past 30 years. The past 2 seasons were the only ones as a team shoot below 40%. So, I really cannot blame coaching. Unless they all of a sudden became bad coaches during the past 3 years.
but, it is coaching when it comes to the type of offense they use and recruiting the right type of players for that offense. Lady Griz have seemed to always have a big girl around 6'3" at center, and a good point guard. but, since Holly tyler and Brooklyn Lorenzen left, they have been under-sized and using combo guards that can play point guard as well as 2 guard or small forward. they certainly did okay while Mandy was here, but I still consider her as a combo guard. I think she would have been better playing at the 3 position.
that 2008-9 team was as good as any past Lady Griz team. Did happen to get a very bad matchup with Pittsburgh though. Sure wish they had a matchup with a team like last years against UCLA. A Lady Griz team that wasn't nearly as good as the 2008-9 team gave UCLA all they could. The 2008-9 team would have beaten UCLA last year.
