DePaul: They had some good quality wins, but they also had 3 bad losses. You have to finish better than 19-12 to overcome 3 bad losses.

Oklahoma State: Yes, they squeaked out a few Big 12 conference games, but their non-conf SOS was waaaay worse than the Lady Griz this year. This is the women's version of Syracuse.

UL Lafayette: So just because a team in your conference recruits one of the best players in the nation, you should get in? Take MTSU out of their conference and their SOS drops like a rock. They have a good win similar to Montana, and they have the bad loss similar to Montana. So that's when I turn to the RPI to tell me who did better against their competition. PLUS - the Lady Griz only losing 3 times all year is more impressive than what this team did.

TCU: The worst one of all. Montana beat Wyoming twice, a team that TCU lost to twice. If that isn't a solid indicator of which team is better, than I don't know what else to tell you. I guess the Wyoming member on the committee did earn their school some conference money by getting another MWC team in.

So, you think Montana should move out of the Big Sky Conference now?

Except WAC isn't the answer. MWC has two teams in the NCAA. Lady Griz should move to the MWC. The men's team should move to the WAC.

Actually the MWC has three womens teams in the NCAA. We knew WYO was on the bubble We beat TCU twice but with a RPI of 73 it was a long shot TCU had an RPI of 51 and played a better schedule. I guess that swung the votes their way.

Like that is ever going to happen? :werd:

Yes it is :werd: , but it certainly adds fuel to CityGriz's theory on the reason if Lady Griz didn't get into the ncaa tournament. Like two words, "Big", and "Sky". You remember that post right?

You are out of your F ing mind of you think the men are going to one conference and the ladies to another. I am sending you to the clinic for a drug test. you gotta be high. :werd:

Where did I say that I think they are going to be split ways?

But, not to worry, I figured you would respond the way you did, because you just spend to much time on this board and take things way to serious.

Hey you were the guy who split them not me. Now you say you are just joking because someone called you on it and pointed out how ludicrous it is. nice spin

The Chairwomen of the selection committee said why the Lady Griz were not picked - they are trying to "grow the sport" - "grow the sport" means higher ratings = big name schools = big TV markets = No Big Sky, no Montana. It isn't enough to be good, now you have to have a TV market of 2 - 5 million.

If the Lady Griz don't get a 1st round bye/top seed they should bail on the WNIT - they would certainly get more publicity from telling the NCAA to F themselves than they will get traveling to a no where school for a game that won't be on TV or even have the score published in the majority of the nations newspapers.

I would love it if they told the WNIT (NCAA in sheeps clothing) to F Off. I don't think it will happen though.

I agree, but no way it happens. Robin and the girls are way to competitive for that. Be cool to win it too...kinda.

you're probably right, although La tech told em to F off - they said they were an NCAA tournament team, if they didn't get invited to the NCAA they weren't interested in the WNIT. I really think that is good motivation to the players to know you win your conference or sit home.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

This is BS! Tell me the LG are not one of the best 64 teams. Really make me wonder what the hell, if anything, the commitee knows?

(1) Robin Selvig is one of the greatest collegiate basketball coaches in Womens' Basketball.

(2) Mandy Morales is one of the top 11 point guards in the nation and arguably one of the top 20 players in the nation. If you want to market womens' basketball, how can one argue with the marketability of Selvig, Morales, and tradition?

(3) Can this so called commitee explain why most majors will not schedule the LG? Could it be that many respected coacheas and AD's know how good the LG are? How dare they schedule the LG and get beat by a smaller conference program! Speaking of conferences, this brings up another point.

Conference affiliation with the BIG SKY absolutely "KILLS" every sport, but football!!!! BASKETBALL is especially hurt thanks to the politics in NCAA major sports. This snub is a blow to Robin Selvig, the program, the univesity, and the conference!

This could and will just as easily happen to our Mens program too or any other BSC basketball program. This conference "SUCKS"!!
I am sorry, but this is the last straw for me. I am "DONE" being 1/2 way on moving up or not. I am officially on board with CITY and other supporters of moving up and out of the BIG SKY!

I want us to be in a conference with other schools with fan bases that the majority of programs have "fan" support equal to or greater than us. I am tired of U of M being the only school that strives for excellence, and the only program with good fan support.
The U of M's efforts and striving for excellence is "wasted" in the Big Sky AKA "BIG SUCK" conference. Hell, even in football this conference is losing respect. In football, it is known as "The GRIZ, and 8 wannabe's. Granted, I know and respect die hard fan bases elsewhere, but fact is there is too few to support these programs.

The LG being snubbed is a slap in the face to everyone involved in the program and every fan. Time for the GRIZ to move up! AS for the LG, go "KICK ASS" in the WNIT. I will thank the NCAA commitee in advance for one thing. "MOTIVATION" the next 2 years. LOOK OUT NCAA, the LG will use this to KICK ASS every game, every second in 07/08 and 08/09. Thank you for writing the LG a ticket to the sweet 16 or better each of the next 2 years. LADIES go prove these "know nothings" wrong. SHOW everyone what MONTANA basketball is about!!!! WNIT CHAMPS!

Finally, BYE BYE Big SKY please!!!!

Since when did Montana fans get to good for the WNIT. Why
would you tell the WNIT to f*ck off, just because we didn't get
chosen for the NCAA's. Believe me i'am just as pissed as the next guy were not in the big tourny, but come on, what kind of message are you sending if you say we didn't get are way so we aren't going to play.

There were people all over mandy for not showing up to claim her all tourny team trophy, and now your saying the whole team should do the same thing, i mean come on get a clue. The ladies should play and they should kick some ass, thats the only way to get attention.

Looks like ESPN is even a little confused about us not being in the tourny. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/clubhouse?teamId=149

Montana joins the field of 64 from the Big Sky Conference, where the Lady Griz finished 15-1 in conference play. But after dominating the league, Montana stumbled in the Big Sky semifinals and had to settle for an at-large bid. Northern Arizona, which the Lady Griz swept in the regular season, topped Montana 64-59 to snap an 11-game winning streak.

Coach Robin Selvig has guided Montana to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances in his 29 seasons with the Lady Griz. Montana is 6-16 all-time in the Big Dance, but has never advanced past the second round.

Selvig's squad is a true representation of Montana and the neighboring regions, as the roster includes 11 players from the state of Montana, two from Wyoming and one from Oregon.

Sophomore guard Mandy Morales (Billings, Mont.) is a finalist for the Naismith Award, averaging 20.1 points per game and dishing 6.8 assists. Backcourt mate Sonya Rogers is the only other Lady Griz to post double-digit scoring (11.1 ppg).

Junior forward Johanna Closson is the leading rebounder, clearing 6.5 per game.

Montana prides itself on taking care of the ball, coughing up just 13.8 turnovers per game. Another Montana strength comes at the charity stripe where the Lady Griz are shooting 77 percent. [/size]

Montana's schedule is perhaps its biggest weakness. According to Gerry Palm's strength of schedule computation, the Lady Griz ranked 238th among NCAA Division I teams. In addition, none of Montana's competitors in the Big Sky had a sub-100 RPI.

Its two most impressive wins both came against Mountain West competitor Wyoming.

I fully agree. Previous recent winners of the WNIT include Arkansas, Oregon, Auburn, Penn St. and Ohio St. There's no sense in immitating LSU on snubbing a postseason tournament, even if their 'pride' is somewhat hurt by their latest HC and her resignation.
This would be a good time for a UM team to show those posters over on AGS that a Grizzly team can win a playoff/postseason game on the road; telling them posters on AGS to FO, not the NCAA or the WNIT.

The Lady Griz are usually ranked in the top 25 for women's attendance. In 2005-2006, they were 27th, because it was a slow year.
