Kyon Loud was offered $150k to go to Fresno. $300k from TCU

I agree with most of the posts. I think if a player is poached from another school, the receiving school should have to compensate the school the player is leaving. I am sure someone can figure out a formula that takes into consideration coaching time, one on one coaching time, time the training facility was used for mandatory training, use of the film rooms, locker rooms, a portion of the utilities, uniform expenses, travel expenses, repayment of scholarships, and probably more that I didn't just think of from the top of my head.

Issue each player a swipe card. Any time a player does ANYTHING school or team related, they swipe their card in and out. That way the data can be tracked, a dollar amount can be assigned for every activity and recouped from the school the player is transferring to. It doesn't have to be based on the players impact on the team. it would be like housing a prisoner in jail or prison. Every single thing is tracked. then a number is produced as to what the cost is per player per year.

In Montana it costs $64,000 a year to house a prisoner. So what would it cost for an athlete? I would say substantially more. Especially if they track every activity a player engages in. Say with everything included, it's an average of $150K a year.

I think more schools would second guess poaching players. I think it would be a fair system.
Im sorry, I've been a prisoner in Montana and there is NO WAY they spent $64,000 to house me😂.

Maybe that's not what you saw, BUT again, they take EVERYTHING into consideration. Salaries, food, housing, transportation, utilities, medical, everything. I can't comment on the prisoner side. I was never a guest, I just helped people get their reservations.

I know I wouldn't want to be a guest of a county or state hotel. The food is disgusting, the facilities are trash, the corrections staff are... I'll stay silent on that. Let's just say they aren't even the floaty stuff on the bottom of the jug of milk. I do know that's the average.

Regardless, if a formula was created to take that into consideration, it would be a much different story with players entering the portal.

There is NO PROOF, that's what Kyon was offered and I highly doubt he was offended that much. And even if he was by some miracle, I'm pretty sure none of it is guaranteed. I just hope his family was able to read the fine print that if he gets injured, he gets nothing. While these kids are getting paid, it's far from the NFL where players are protected if something were to happen to them. Don't get me wrong, I wish all the best for Kyon and his family and I hope it all works out for him.
Bonuses and NIL type of money offers are often and mostly predicated on making the 2-deep roster. No guaranty that he will. I think some of these guys will have rude awakenings on the money payouts, but the Power 4 schools are definitely paying that type of money. If you are good FCS player, and a Power 4 school or even top FBS schools wants you as an integral part of their team, I am not sure how a player would not take that opportunity. And, if a player really sees themselves as a next level (pro) candidate, it makes the most sense to prove yourself on an FBS team with the higher level of competition. Can only help your stock.

Is this cash that’s hitting his bank account on signing, or just the estimated value of the contract?
All dependent on the language of the contract. Most are done in monthly installments. Often there is a guaranteed amount with incentives and fines depending on how the athlete operates (eg. fines for missing a meeting, being late to a workout, etc.)

Seems like a lot for an "average" player.

How did you miss Hicks Onu? Shutdown corner.
He wasn't even the best cornerback on that team. Justin Ford had a lower receptions allowed percentage, way more INTs, and allowed a much lower passer rating when targeted. He was the best run stopping corner we've maybe ever had, though, but he wasn't in the league of Trumaine and Kyon.

This shows Hoops is right, you don't know shit about football. It was very well known that teams did not go to the Hicks Onu side because of his superior skills (the definition of a shutdown CB) and went to Ford's instead, which set him up for the ints. Hicks Onu being out for the JMU semi game was a killer. Cignetti knew our weaknesses and exploited them.

And lets be honest, not to take too much away from Ford cus he was always in the right place at the right time but at least 5, maybe 6 of his INT's were lucky tips that happened to bounce into his sure hands.

I dunno what to tell you, man. Ford was targeted 88 times out of 468 snaps and allowed 38 receptions (43.2%) in 2021 and Hicks-Onu was targeted 63 times out of 399 snaps and allowed 30 receptions (48.4%). There's a reason Ford was asked to shadow Lance McCutcheon in the 2021 Brawl and shut him down.

I think Hicks-Onu was a great corner for us. I also think Kyon Loud was better.

I liked Hicks-Onu over Ford. Loud is good, but he was not as good, in my view, at least yet, than those other two. I'm pretty sure Hicks-Ono was faster too. I have never disparaged 1122's football knowledge. I like his posts and info. I like to look at stats, but I usually judge players and teams by what I observe or learn from asking, and not from stats.

I appreciate it, and maybe I'm "projecting forward" or basing it on perceived talent instead of what we saw from Kyon. Don't want to disparage Omar, I think he was fantastic, and you saw the drop off in Justin's production the next year when he didn't have a 2nd elite corner (although to be fair, Ford was targeted MUCH less in 2022 than he was in 2021, 48 total times in 2022 vs. 88 times in 2021).

But I dunno, I haven't seen a corner with the ability to shut down receivers like Loud did this year (in limited capacity) since Tru was here. Just my opinion, though.

I would add to that, if it's a lateral transfer or a player dropping down, there wouldn't be compensation. Compensation only when a player is moving up. It wouldn't stop the poaching, but it might slow it down a bit and make the lower teams feel better about it, just like the money games they play.

Loud is better than both and his upside is much higher. Hes the nfl prototype.
