If I was writing a series I would answer a lot of those questions, but I was just addressing why these camps are more important to Montana than in years past.

I would like to know, is there anything unique, different of distinctive about UM's camps this year, that is distinctive from prior years or from other schools? The "tone" of the article suggests there is, the "substance" of the article fails to identify it.
Well, yes, there was "coachspeak." What did they actually say?

I used actual quotes

Kyle, does this mean they are spending more time/energy towards a smaller number of recruits, rather than spending less time/energy per recruit on a wider group? Seems like a good direction to go to me.

What's your favorite meal to eat while watching a scrimmage Kyle? And when will you debut a mini helmet?

Yes, that was the "coachspeak." There was no context for "what it meant."

Wait - so coach-speak doesn't work here, but it would work for "blah blah blah he's a good kid, just wants a different opportunity," if some kid were leaving the program?

We as FANS MUST have the coach give coach-speak when a kid leaves the program. #priorities [emoji6]

I think we've pretty well covered that by and large, our coaches don't say much when kids leave. And when they do publicly, they will say the opposite at QB Club about the kid. The point or purpose? Only people like you understand the strategy and apparently think it is a tremendous asset to the reputation of the University of Montana. I don't. PM me if you need an explanation.

As I noted above, it would have been interesting to know "how" this June's camps differ from previous camps. There was an implication, but as Soldier Griz noted, what was "actually" said didn't point to any differences. There was something along the lines "we are going to use these camps to recruit the best players." Wellll, OK. Is that actually news? That's a perfect example of "coachspeak." It makes some fans positively swoon. But, what else would a coach say?

I thought the article was well-written, and Kyle notes that it raises enough questions for a series. I think that would be an interesting series to get "those" kinds of answers and explanations. Camps are a big deal. I could tell from the conversations about salaries that most knew little about them.

Let's know more about the camps. Interesting stuff. Kyle made a good start at it.

This makes perfect sense. CDA has all but abandoned us, dam you people with lives. How about a new thread called Ask Kyle? Although someone who has some real information, insider I mean - who asks for and gets answers would be risky here. I think it's worth a shot.

That's their plan. They want to identify a smaller group of players and then make offers to them. Justin Green said it best: "We want our offers to mean something."

I'm just waiting for that "dare to be great" moment.

UM's offers in the past haven't "meant anything?" Well, that's an interesting take on it ... it would be interesting to know more.

Word on the street is that "mini helmet" was Kyle's nickname at his frat.

Sorry Snap!!!

We always had many young men that were offered various "rides" to come to the program and at least half of these guys washed out the first season for various reasons. I took the simple write up by Kyle that Sir Stitt is attempting to stop the large group of players that we signed but were marginal to begin with not only in skill but the mental aspect as well.

Camps are a very good way to get the feel for the young men and their family. The kids get to see what the hell they are getting into. I know of many kids that attend numerous camps and some have fathers with deep pockets and I wonder how the poor families deal with this issue. When "free" Bernie becomes president all of this will even out. Until then...

I wonder about the lower income families too. I'm sure there are camp scholarships available but how does that effect NCAA rules, if at all.

Exceptional HS football players will receive offers whether they attend camps or not...dozens of ways to get noticed today with the inter webs. "Under the radar" is very rare now.

Sounds like recruiting a more focused/narrow group of players to camp to get them on campus earlier is the main idea. It's a good idea given the quality of our facilities and beauty of Missoula.

Yes you're once...twice...three times Umista.

Films give you a sense of the players skills & exploits. Having them with you @ a camp will go a long way to filling in the blanks, either cementing interest or continuing the search elsewhere. The question of equal opportunity is an interesting one though. I hope there are chances funded for deserving kids who don't have every resource @ their disposal. And you would hope the chance to see what all the fuss is about will help spark sincere interest on the program on the part of recruits and their parents.

The biggest reason is likely that kids recruited at age 17 can change a lot by the time they are going on 18-19, and including the biggest social and cultural changes of their lives. Unless and until "coaches" become expert physiologists and psychologists, those "reasons" can't change "much."

By relying "more" on camps, if we did or did not in the past, increasing reliance on camps creates a different problem, it increases a "selection bias." It's a great way to see potential recruits, and that's the obvious upside, and you'd love to get all the kids you'd ever want to recruit to YOUR camp. But, good luck. Does increasing reliance on "camps" to any substantial degree -- if that is what was translated into English in the recent article -- expand or diminish the high-end recruitment pool?
