KUDOS to Royce Engstrom

The brilliant and principled President Engstrom's exit strategy sounds like that of someone having terminated both the pilot and the co-pilot of a passenger plane halfway across the Pacific. Forgetting the reasons Plugrad and O'Day were canned, we're witnessing the "non-exit strategy" of a full blown amateur. Did the revelation for his decision come from a Ouija board or the bottom of a tea cup? In any case the national media is pressing hard for a rationale while Engstrom hides behind "this is a personnel matter" schtick similar to the ploy used earlier that allowed the Saudi student assault suspect a head start out of the country before the authorities were informed. Forthright candor is alien to this guy.

Before he pulled the trigger did he have people in place to take over the AD's responsibilities or those of football coach in the midst of spring practice and five months before the season starts? I was one of a number of alumni visited recently by an envoy from UM soliciting my two bits worth as part of a campaign to elevate the school's image. That's rich! Today, anybody with access to the internet knows by now what out image is since Engstrom displayed our dirty laundry to the Universe. I don't condone the actions of the two individuals, but Engstrom's brain-freeze way of dealing with it has done irreparable damage to the university. And the unintended consequences have just begun.

Unless he begins to demonstrate some transparency the next headline might well read "UM Rolls Royce."
Right now he's an embarrassment to those who truly care about the school's reputation - such as it is.

Its really nice to have a President that has a moral compass and BALLS to do the right thing.

He axed some of the people that needed to go, now he just needs to cut ties with Maes and Foley so we can start over with people who wont pressure the new AD and HC to return to the same old criminal mindset that has been here the last decade.

This guy is a breath of fresh air and its the first time UM has done the right thing in many many years.

My hat is off to you sir, keep up the SUPERIOR performance.

Moron. If change in leadership is required, then Engstrom should acknowledge that he is part of the problem and he should step down (or be fired). The U has misshandled countless sexual assault issues, many of which do not involve athletes. If Engstrom had any balls (or perhaps a brain) he would step down.

AlphoGriz is a "bandwagon" Bithc ! He invented everything, knows everything, forsee's everything and yet, has no life at all. I am flat sick of this guy's rubbish that flows from his mouth & onto this board. Go back and play with yourself at YOUR message board......

I don't know. Engstom is new to the job. Took him awhile to learn the extent of issues and he made a bold decision. It may not be popular, but in all reality, he likely made the right one. He knows more about the whole situation than anyone on this board. Some of it is still likely to come out. Some of never will due to privacy issues. I am sure he did not make it lightly and he gave it a huge amount of thought and weighed out all the legal aspects of it.

yes, he did the right thing. ask adults that you know that don't have much interest in football and almost all of them will tell you it's the right thing to do.

In a way smaller world here, I did the same thing as Engstrom. A huge problem which stayed consistant, and was poo-poo'ed off and covered up, led me to calling in the investigators. I fired the person who was in charge immediately. I doubt Engstrom is a micro-manager of the athletic department and entrusts the people who work for him... as did I in my case. When it gets to the point that the BS is hurting the department and the city, you only have one choice. The greater whole comes first. And if some coffee drinker in the rusty zipper club is DEMANDING an explanation... I'll give him the proper answer, "I did what was best for the City. We're moving on." With lawsuits possible, that's all a position of leadership can give. The fired have personal rights too.

Engstrom inherited a problem that was built by ODay and Hauck so its funny that anyone would think he should step down.

The fact that so many of you football first retards are up in arms and crying like the bitches you are proves he was 100% correct in cleaning up this ghetto before it becomes a 3rd world war zone.

Once agin Royce you are the single bright spot at UM right now.....................keep it up.

Engstrom and Pflu were hired about the same time. 8-)

There were problems before Engstrom was here but not to the same level as it has gotten to after he arrived. O'day was here....just sayin it seems to tie more to the arrival of Engstrom than it does O'day. If we are going to point a finger at anyone.

...and that the woman he hired...
...cost uz a head coach and an a d...
...juzt hope he got hiz money worth...
...waz nervouz about her from day one...

... 8-) ...

The underlying point is RP was a contract employee, not an independent contractor. Cliff Edwards could weigh in  , but that is a big issue in wrongful discharge lawsuits.
