Krakaeur's book "Missoula" to be released April 21

Reed - February 23, 2015 11:15 pm
The University of Montana has been in steady decline for over a decade.
"Reed" couldn't get past his first sentence without a complete, howling, error. Proceed accordingly.

For most of the past decade, UM outstripped MSU in growth, and was the larger school. That took a major reversal after Royce Engstrom became president of UM

Full-time student enrollment

MSU Bozeman
2004 10,665
2005 10,528
2006 10,642
2007 10,555
2008 10,467
2009 10,509
2010 10,876 Cruzado appointed Pres. MSU
2011 11,540
2012 12,019
2013 12,577
2014 12,971

UM Missoula
2004 11,118
2005 11,032
2006 10,963
2007 11,042
2008 11,160
2009 11,360
2010 11,717
2011 12,136 Engstrom named President of UM
2012 11,874 March 28, 2012, Engstrom fires AD, Coach
2013 11,055 May 9, 2013, Engstrom signs J.D. "Agreement;" student rights down the river.
2014 10,543

UM grew 9% in the 8 years before Engstrom's appointment (assuming enrollment was established in 2011 by the prior Fall's registration), and has collapsed by 15% in the four years since he took the position. MSU has grown 12% since Cruzado arrived.

Indeed, prior to her arrival, MSU had pretty much flat-lined, whereas UM was growing robustly under George Dennison. Since Engstrom's appointment, UM has lost 1,593 FTEs, whereas since Cruzado was appointed, MSU has gained 2,104 FTEs, the separation total being 3,697 students.

Come on, 75. You know that enrollment is down system wide, at least that's what UM's lobbyist likes to say

The University of Montana has been in steady decline for over a decade. It has been rotting from the inside. A college should not exist for a team. If teams are to exist at all, their members should be held to a higher standard than the average student. If winning a ball game is more important than educating the next generation then your society is doomed.

The "team" is a liability and always has been. Its a money-making scheme for good-ol-boys paid for by indebted students who are receiving a worthless education. The dropout rate and joblessness rate of actual graduates is abysmal.

On top of all the systemic problems at the U, there was always the notoriously sketchy Missoula PD. The police in Missoula are known nationwide for their misconduct. This is not just an issue relating to this rape accusation. The U has never had a "rape culture" and everyone knows it. The U has a Griz problem and a local-police problem. The Missoula PD just thought they could do what they always have done, which is cover-up for their buddies awhile generating revenue off the student population, which offers an endless stream of minor offenses to profit and expand upon. In this case, they got caught and people noticed. Hilariously few Missoulians "get it" but luckily Krakauer did.

The Missoulian is frequently complicit in this social rot with their inability to deliver hard-hitting reporting that improves the town. They are all-too afraid of Missoula's precious "reputation." Well it looks like Krakauer just flushed that reputation, so you may as well start realtalking before these issues get even worse. New (female) prosecutor won't change much. The problem is in the police and the U. Hopefully, that is exactly what the book is about.

Are you Reed?

Odd that you sound the same, use the same sentence structures, and grind the same axes.
the first two paragraphs are way outside of anything i have ever stated.

So, you agree with the last two?

What an idiot. Virtually everything in the letter is incorrect and not supported by fact or anything. That person is a total loser, in my view.
you sound like billy madison or some average junior high school kid with that response.

You continue to sound like Reed, the person who wrote that letter.

because it flys in the face of what everyone here is talking about, which is defending the football program at all costs. we can do things the right way and still be good, actually we'd probably be better. with dennison, foley, o'day, pflu gone we're on the right track imo. trouble is, so many are engrained in that style that it's hard to change. starting at the top was a good move. the sheep will follow.

Good god you are full of shit.

The reason you posted this comment is because it’s in line with your melodramatic agenda, period.

Other than the few, extreme “PR type” of posters, who “defends the football program at all costs”? You are clutching at straws.

GG, I don't necessarily disagree with you entirely, and even agree with you on some of this.

But I'll echo Raider's question: Other than a few well-known Defend-at-all-cost types on here, do you really believe most defend the FB program no matter what? If so, I think you need to read with a more discernible eye.

what straws am i clutching at? who's being melodramatic? i'm just posting facts. sorry if you aren't able to handle that. my guess is you're so hellbent on winning in the accustomed fashion that anything that threatens the status quo must be attacked or shouted down. which is the norm here.

The only "fact" was the fact that the very first sentence you posted, citing to your alter ego, happened to be not just wrong, but wrong in the opposite direction. It was either the result of a bigoted, uninformed disregard for truth, or a calculated effort to mislead readers by posting false "facts."

Perhaps you felt a compelling need to simply lie about the University of Montana. Perhaps that is your "accustomed fashion" because you are "hellbent" on your agenda, and facts really don't matter.

getgriz, of course Griz fans are similar to all college FB fans in the nation. They love their team!

However, if you think Griz fans condone rape, thugs, slugs, dropouts, drugs and all the other crap, U must be bitter and crazy!
