My scouting report: That kicker can kick.

for those complaining of the announcers why don't they do what I do and turn the volume off? seriously best way to watch a game is with no volume. i don't need anyone telling me what is going on. It also lets you judge the ref calls objectively. It however does not work if you are blind or listening to the game on the radio for those fans not smart enough to figure that out lol.

All Right....I know you have all been waiting for what I thought, so here it is...Enjoy

1) It turned into a beautiful night for a game, the wind was blowing from the north, so you couldn't even smell the swimming pool on the south side...

2) There was a weird energy in the stadium...It was loud at times, but just seemed like both teams and the fans were bored till about the 50 yard field goal in the 4th quarter...Then it felt electric again.

3) Cats front 7 are legit. We haven't had a decent pass rush in years, and we got to the QB with 4 pretty regularly. No clue on how our secondary will play, because they didn't really get challenged after the first half (only about 2 long passes, and I believe both were on one drive)

4) Cats Offense is SCARY, and not in the good way. I think we have some very good WR's, but I don't know if we will ever find that out because we can't pass. In the second half, you could see that WIU was sitting back waiting for Anderson to run, and that is when some of the 5-6 yard passes opened up, but there needs to be major improvement

5) Cats O-line didn't open up any running lanes up the middle, but we wouldn't stop trying.

6) Refs...I don't know if this was a Big Sky crew or a MVC crew, but they were awful. this is nothing new.

Overall...A win is a win, and like many have said the last couple years these games would have been losses...I still don't know what WIU was thinking at the end of the game, it was like they thought a game lasted 5 quarters. They ran 5 minutes off the clock and gained about 35-40 yards. Next week will be a long day for the Cats if we can't get things figured out on the O side.

That's unbearable, it's like talking on the phone with someone watching the same game and their broadcast is a couple seconds ahead of yours...hang up immediately.

We wish the cats,suck, but they don't. Good defense, good attitude. Not world beaters, but big mistake to take them lightly.

Well I was at the game, so that answers your first question. Secondly, I never said our D would be the best in the Big Sky so quit making shit up. Lastly, it's cute reviewing these threads when you guys were all giddy thinking the Bobcats were gonna suck. :lol:

I will give credit where credit is due.....you won a game that you typically found a way to lose last year. Bailey was clutch and Sterk was huge in the pass rush. But in the flip end, you can’t tell me you’re pretty excited about what you saw overall. I mean your offense was abysmal, especially in the first half. I am good buds with some die hard Cats fans and they were not impressed overall. They are now worried for when they play tougher competition.

Yes, actually I am pretty happy with what I saw overall, because it was a first game. First half was scary bad on offense, and defense gave up some big ones too. But for myself and anyone else who follows this team closely, we knew they would come out and perform better in the second half. Definitely they have work to do on the office but they will improve there, that I am positive about. Defensively, I really like what I saw and it backs up what I have been telling you on here that our D will be much better in 2018 than it's been, and we'll have one of if not the best defense in the Big Sky. Several of our best players on defense didn't play last night but they will be back soon.

Overall, you just can't argue that Choate-led teams don't play their asses off every play. They play physical, hit hard, and wear teams out. Next week we'll travel to take on the #3 team in the nation and as usual we'll scratch and claw our way in that game and we'll be in it at the end. Hopefully we can pull out a W there and avenge last year's loss to them where we gave it away.

Again, overall I am very happy with the win and no I'm not scared that we're going to lose all the remaining games on our schedule against stiff competition. I say nothing last night to change my prediction of a 7-4 or maybe 8-3 type season with a shot at winning the Big Sky and making the playoffs.

I must admit, I gotta at least appreciate your constant optimism regardless of what you, I, and many others saw. Just the fact alone the offense looked as awful as it did (with all of its main pieces in place btw) would be enough to make me start drinking a lot before every game. Yes the D played much better in the 2nd half but they were not good either early. I will agree the kids play hard and never quit. If SDSU is as good as everyone is claiming, I think you’ll have a tough time hanging around in that one unless your offense takes a serious 360 in that game.

Ok, cool... so we're all pretty happy then, works for me. And I'm sure the griz will come out flawless and look like world beaters tomorrow night against UNI. Looking forwards to watching that one and having the griz show us how it's done in an opening game.

Man he had happy feet, and had no idea how to step up into the pocket. Talk about the QB list from a couple days ago...footwork and presence were not there. He had a good arm and could make throws, but his brain sucked.
I will wait to judge the game in a few weeks after I see the product on Saturday night, but I may change to a W on the road. I do think it funny that the cats win "against the team picked 7th in the MV" but how many on here picked the Griz to beat UNI and lose to W Illinois? Quite a few if my memory serves me. Good wins by the Sky tonight...and maybe Weebs isn't as good as thought as well. GO GRIZ!

I agree with your comments on the WIU QB. He threw off his back foot on most every pass, very poor mechanics for a kid who has started for 4 years. Poor decision making too, and not very accurate.

Player Rep, I kind of thought it was a typical first game in that play was sloppy on both sides. I have learned over the years that you cannot judge a team by what happens in a first game. I am sure they will clean up that offense this week. My bet is that Anderson turns it completely around.

Will be watching the Griz tonight.

The WIU had 4 new starters on the OL this year, and while, at times, they blocked well in the run game, they got abused in pass protection. And McGuire played like he knew he was going to get smacked.

McGuire is going to get pounded against BIG 10 Illinois next week. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was injured for the Montana game.

We were bouncing around different games, so we didn't follow all the intro stuff. But as we watched the actual game, the WIU QB looked so inept, I figured he was a newbie. So it came as a bit of a shock to learn that he'd been starting since he was a redshirt freshman. But if Wikipedia has it right, he's playing under his third head coach, so maybe it's no surprise that he looked so bad in his first game under a new coach.
