Football is BACK!!! "You beat a bad team" "They were still FBS" "You didn't cover" "Spread was ridiculous".... LOVE IT ALL!!!

Now I didn't read all 14 pages, so someone may have already covered this. If so You don't need to read it...

My take on Saturdays game (Took a couple days, and rewatched the game)
Concerns
1) Cats need to find a way to get push from the Interior of the D-Line. Losing Seabass seems to be a bigger concern that I thought (I thought it would be an issue, but man..) Cats need to find a way to get a push in the middle on defense, or teams are just going to double team the rushers and run right past them.

2) Secondary needs to learn how to actually turn their heads and look for the ball. The Lobo WR weren't wide open most of the day, but the DB's NEVER turned their heads to look for the ball, so about 6 times they were called for PI. Owens was getting an earful from Vigen on the Sidelines after one of the last ones.

3) I still am not sure if our LB's are fast enough. It was an issue last year, and through on game is still seems to be.

Offense

1) Slow start (understatement). Strip Sack TD, WR and QB not being on the same page. 2 WR's fell during routes. Passes that NEED to go 6 yards, and they go 5 yards. Much of this is reps, and 1st game issues. Mellott started 4-8 for 19 yards (OUTCH) but after that went 17-24 for 186. So that was big. He needs to continue throwing it like that consistently.... But will he.

Overall: I never liked the "Point Spread" and thought it was way overblown, BUT 14 points came from scoop and scores. Those points still count. Cats came back and won on the road, something they struggled to do last year. Not concerned about the O-Line, or the RB's. Cats have better WR weapons than I thought they would, but need to get game reps in to solidify timing with QB. Cats probably played their worst game in 2 years, and still came out with the win.

Maybe it wasn’t their worst game in 2 years. Maybe the Cats aren’t that good. The sack fumbles returned for TD’s were great plays by UNM. The two 3d down drops by UNM were very lucky for Cats. Some of the rest of your analysis may be right. I don’t know, so I won’t comment on those things. Thx.

Maybe indeed. Won't really know for a while. Maybe New Mexico will be really good, and the Cats just knocked off a FBS playoff team (They aren't). Great thing is, the season has started, and now we can all find out together...

dropped passes to wide open receivers on 3rd down to ice the game was the difference in this game.
Yeah, both of those were balls those WRs catch 998 times out of a thousand. Think Faunts and Bergen drop those? Not that I think the Brawl will be close enough that the GRIZ will need 4th quarter first down catches to avoid a bub comeback, but you get the point.

Worst game is 2 years? How about Nov 18, 2023?

So, I don't actually think they played worse on Nov 18, 2023. They didn't play their best sure, but I think they just got beat by a better team that day. It wasn't a "Cats played their worst game"... To say that the Cats played their "Worst Game" in the Brawl last year is taking away from how well the Griz played in it.

Cats -13.5
Gotta say ..after the hole they dug for themselves, it was a pretty impressive comeback..

Hope they're elated with their massive win over a vaunted mountain west team..

They did the best they could in both games.

The best quote from that game was Marty Mornhinweg, "The Bobcats are playing hard. They're just not playing very good." It was seriously funny.
