Yes, feel good that the Cats won but yes, they need to clean a lot of things up. But, the first game is a win and I am sure they will get things fixed. It was really ugly that first half and the beginning of the second. Luckily the Lobos are really bad.
About one year ago the bobcats were extremely competitive against South Dakota State, and this year the bobcats are squeaking out a last-minute come-from-behind win against UNM. So It Seems that bobby daly and staff have much more progress to achieve. The back-end of the bobcat schedule shows Oct 12th Idaho, @PSU, @EWU, SacState, @Davis, Griz. From what I saw UNM might win 0 or 1 of those games. The bobby daly defense that I saw yesterday might not win 3 of those games. Just watching from my easy chair!

I will say, in the cats defense though, there’s a lot of time and a lot of Football to play between now and October 12th. They now head into a stretch of games against teams that aren’t very good so this will give their Defense a chance to work on some things before the get to the heavy duty stuff in mid October. I’m not saying they’ll figure it out, but they got a lot of time to figure stuff out is all I’m saying

Both your post and the one you responded to are correct. Great comeback, 4th Q and last drive. Lucky to get those 2 3d down drops that most of us would have caught. Along ways to go, but at least they aren’t peaking too soon. At half time. I said NM had to figure out yo give 22 such big hikes up the middle. NM pretty much figured that out, then started letting 23 go up the middle. Ha.

I concur GTID. There is time. From biased-fans Idaho seems optimistic and comfortable that they have a skilled Quarterback 2024, and PSU has a skilled senior QB. Much better than the UNM quarterback. That bobcat pass defense was not capable. Zero sacks, only two hurries. Defensive pass coverage was not good in several cases. Cat defenders called for PI and several Open Lobo receivers dropped passes. Those are observations from yesterday, and they may get things sorted out but they are far inferior to last 2 years.

And I would agree with all of that. They do have a couple guys out on D like Dru Polidore who may be their best guy in the Secondary, but that injury to their DL yesterday looked nasty. Definitely a lot of things to be concerned about if you’re a cat fan.

An ugly but impressive win for the Shi##y Kitties over a bad, rebuilding New Mexico team !!! What impressed me the most is the SK's grit, refusal to give up, and the fact they managed to squeak out a win with 6-7 starters out, including their center and another OL, and other OL starters like Wehr were playing out of position. Tommy Mellott is a class kid and he and his teammates kept fighting even when the score was lopsided against them against an FBS opponent with 22 more scholarships--beat up FCS teams normally don't defeat healthy FBS teams, but fortunately for the SK's, they were playing New Mexico !!!

What 6/7 starters out?

Just going to put this out there too all the Cat fans acting like they just beat a good FBS team
Sagarin ranks UNM 135 overall. Teams in just the Bigsky conference ahead of them are as follows:

Sac State 133
Weber State 129
Idaho 128
UC davis 127
Montana State 88
Montana 86

And that is just the Bigsky Teams that fact that it was that close even with injury or not is bad... I get that we had some games last year as well that where not great but at least Griz fans acknowledged how bad they were playing.

MSU Starters Out for NM game:

1. Julius Davis, RB
2. Justus Perkins, C
3. JT Reed, G
4. Dru Polidore, S
5. Casey Kautzman, K

RT Marcus Wehr moved to RG
G Cole Sain moved to C

I think New Mexico had the notion that there are only 3 quarters in a game so their planning was somewhat off...

It is early in the season.

Looking at msu’s tough non-conference schedule they are lucky to have that bye week to get ready for a tough Mercyhurst team..😳
Hey, they just went into a very hostile environment of dozens of screaming fans and beat (narrowly escaped) one of the best MWC teams in history in the most difficult conditions ever in the history of football. I’m thinking UNM has an outside shot at the CFP after they hung that close with Bozeman State.

They’re giant killers that’s for sure!
