Keaton Anderson verbals to Cats

The best Montana players and best UM or MSU team will prove themselves on the field each year. The irony I see here is assuming the best 5 or 10 high school players in the state (as speculated by someone named VinSim) will become the best at the college level. Lots of top 5 to 10's that make it big, many that don't. Plenty of under the radar Colt Andersons and Chase Reynolds that do pretty well....better than the "Tanner Roderick's" of the state.

As well.....both team rely heavily on out of state recruits. Always have and always will.

Win a game in late November Bobcats!!

Another reason Keaton Anderson may have signed with The Boobcats: playing time.

Both Chad Newell and Gunnar Brekke--who with that scruffy beard and receding hairline looks like a flasher and/or a chomo (I am sure he is a great kid, but his physical appearance to me is fricking creepy !!! )--are seniors.

While John Nguyen is a senior as is the legal-problem plagued Joey Counts, Treshawn Favors is a junior, Jeremy Calhoun and Cody McCombs from here in Billings are sophomores, and Tre Green, a 3 star kid out of Vancouver, WA and Brody Martinez also of Washington--Federal Way, are hopefully redshirt freshmen. The competition to see the field in Missoula as a RB looks like it could be pretty intense for the next several years.

Choate is recruiting hard for The Shi##y Kitties here in Montana--so is GRIZ HC Bob Stitt. And given our domination of the in-state rivalry over the last three decades--since Ronald Reagan was serving his second term in the mid-80's, our corresponding win-loss record, including the playoffs, over that same period vs. The Boobcats w-l record, our superior stadium and facilities soon to get even better with The Washington Champion's Center in 2017, a head coach and staff that are not content with winning seasons but are hungry for a 3rd NC, native Montanans on our staff and former GRIZ Andrew Selle, Chad Germer, Mike Ferriter, and Shann Schillinger that know their way around The Last Bets Place, I like our setup. And though Justin Green isn't from Montana, he is doing an excellent job as our RB coach and recruiting coordinator, has NFL experience, and also knows his way around the state. I like our chances of continuing to out-recruit Choate both in and outside of Montana just as Delaney, Pflugrad, Hauk, Dennehy and Read out recruited Ash, Kramer, Hysell, and Solomonson.

Add remember, for this upcoming Feb. 2017 recruiting class, we are back to 63 scholarships !!!

Vim is a keen observer, but his rankings, while objective--he had Anderson ranked # 1 long before he committed to The Boobcats, are subject to at least some disagreement on at least the Top 10 if not the Top 25.

While we can't sit back on our laurels in Missoula when it comes to recruiting and, for that matter anything else relating to our team--practice, strength-training, academics, it is also true that the sky is not falling on GRIZ football nor will it as long as Coach Stitt and staff are at UM !!!

The sky was supposedly falling five years ago on GRIZ Nation when Gunnar Brekke switched his chosen school from UM to MSU. When he graduates next spring, Brekke will have finished either 0-4 or 1-3 against The GRIZ .. I love our chances at a 3rd NC, maybe more, during The Stitt Era in Missoula !!!

Maybe he does--we are also deep at safety, with Oregon State transfer Justin Strong and Mick's namesake as juniors, Evan Epperly a sophomore, Josh Sandry , Jerrin Williams and Gavin Crow as freshmen, not to mention incoming freshmen Tanner Wilson and Michael McGinnis in the'17 class, we are also pretty deep at safety for the next several years.

Somewhere we are not very deep and I am sure will be an emphasis in the 2017 class: DT, either high school and/or (both, more likely) 1A transfer DT's and JC DT's.

Doesn't Anderson project as a safety?

Yes. :thumb:

Yes. He projects as a great safety. Probably as talented or more so than the starting safeties you have there now. He is that good. Not as big yet, but every bit the athlete that Caruthers from Helena was when he went to UW and played as a true freshman for the Huskies. Great pick up for any team that got him and surprised he stayed in state.

We shouldn't sell ourselves short when we go for these kids, in or out of state.

While Caruthers was good, started for UDUB and was a stud, with all due respect to him, he was no Tim Hauck, Colt Anderson, Jimmy Wilson, or Shann Schillinger !!!

Congrats to Mr. Anderson for staying in state, even if it is the wrong school. Who knows, maybe he will start an NFL safety tradition in Bozeman ?

I just project who the best players in the state are. That is all. Not who are going to be great Bobcats or Grizzlies. Put it this way, Colt Anderson and Chase Reynolds would have been top recruits coming out of high school based off their production alone. It wasn't like they were scrubs or no-namers. Go ahead and use them as examples if you want. Track the top 10 dudes over the past five years coming out of Montana. The kids considered the best have been pretty productive for their schools over that time.

And knowing how most of you act on here, if Keaton would have committed to the Griz, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Same as on Bobcatnation. Just congratulate the kid on getting to live his dream and move on. A kid chose a college. That's all it is.

This ... the voice of sanity.

It would also be wise to remember that the top 5-7 kids may start attracting some FBS looks. Unfortunately, the lure of playing FBS vs. FCS is strong. UM or MSU may lose a kid or two to that. As for now, it is just good fodder for arguments.

I think Stitt thinks he can do just as good or better with out of state talent in majority of cases and just get the loyal Griz kids to walk on anyway. I think he sees this school as stepping stone and could care less about long term relationships with high school coaches. I do think Choate understands the importance of high school connections in state, he wisely has a coach who has that has it a primary factor in his job description, BJ Robertson. That being said, Stitt has signed players that are better than their Montana counterparts on numerous occasions already (this freshman class has some gems in it). If he can beat Cats, win playoff games and a title while here fans and boosters will be happy. High school coaches can be a great recruiting tool, but if degree choice or family Cat fans are not in Griz favor they will go to MSU regardless of high school coach opinion.

Stitt stayed at Colorado School of Mines for FIFTEEN YEARS, and somehow he NOW looks at Montana as a "stepping stone"?

BTW, I think your LAST sentence is the real driver, anyway. Degree choice and family ties. Those overwhelmingly are the reasons most choices are made...

Staying at School of Mines was a career choice, or was it because there were no offers for career advancement.

You do a great job of putting the list together . My point was that your list, like a list from anyone else, is subjective and leaves room for lots of speculation. Keep up the good work, your list is fun to talk about.

Actually, to the contrary, I think Vim strives to be objective and nonpartisan in his list, which is the point. Like Vim said, if Keaton would have chosen to commit to um we wouldn't be having this conversation, but because he chose MSU, Vim's list is suddenly "subjective". Funny stuff.

Nope. He passed up plenty of offers. Was well documented during his hiring process.
