Juniors Corey Easley and Lamarr Farr have left the Montana men’s basketball program.
UM head coach Larry Krystkowiak confirmed Wednesday that both players had decided to leave Missoula and play elsewhere next season. Krystkowiak said that he spoke to both players on Monday.
“(They are) a couple of quality kids that have decided to get to a place where they have the opportunity to get more minutes,” Krystkowiak said.
Easley, a 6-foot-8-inch forward from Inver Grove Heights, Minn., was one of three UM players to play in all 31 games this season. Easley started six games but spent most of the season coming off the bench, averaging 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 14 minutes a game.
Farr played in 29 games this season, starting 12 contests. Farr, a Beloit, Wis., native who transferred to UM this year from Northwest Junior College in Wyoming, averaged 4.7 points a game this season. His 1.75 assists per game were tied for UM’s third-highest total in that category.
Both Farr and Easley were unavailable for comment.
UM is coming off its best season since 1996-97 in which it went 18-13, won the Big Sky Conference tournament and lost to Washington in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Before these recent developments, senior forward Kamarr Davis was the only person on UM’s 15-person roster scheduled to not be back next season.
Krystkowiak declined to say how the Griz would replace Easley and Farr, as it would violate NCAA regulations about recruiting. However, Krystkowiak did say that UM was “actively recruiting.” In November of 2003, UM got high school standouts Kyle Sharp (Hollister, Calif.), Ryan Schumacher (Kirkland, Wash.) and Austin Swift (Santa Cruz, Calif.) to sign on the dotted line.
