Hey, how can egriz get scooped by the Kaimin? Nice article by Danny Davis Thursday, March 31

Two Griz reserves leave basketball team

Juniors Corey Easley and Lamarr Farr have left the Montana men’s basketball program.

UM head coach Larry Krystkowiak confirmed Wednesday that both players had decided to leave Missoula and play elsewhere next season. Krystkowiak said that he spoke to both players on Monday.

“(They are) a couple of quality kids that have decided to get to a place where they have the opportunity to get more minutes,” Krystkowiak said.

Easley, a 6-foot-8-inch forward from Inver Grove Heights, Minn., was one of three UM players to play in all 31 games this season. Easley started six games but spent most of the season coming off the bench, averaging 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 14 minutes a game.

Farr played in 29 games this season, starting 12 contests. Farr, a Beloit, Wis., native who transferred to UM this year from Northwest Junior College in Wyoming, averaged 4.7 points a game this season. His 1.75 assists per game were tied for UM’s third-highest total in that category.

Both Farr and Easley were unavailable for comment.

UM is coming off its best season since 1996-97 in which it went 18-13, won the Big Sky Conference tournament and lost to Washington in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Before these recent developments, senior forward Kamarr Davis was the only person on UM’s 15-person roster scheduled to not be back next season.

Krystkowiak declined to say how the Griz would replace Easley and Farr, as it would violate NCAA regulations about recruiting. However, Krystkowiak did say that UM was “actively recruiting.” In November of 2003, UM got high school standouts Kyle Sharp (Hollister, Calif.), Ryan Schumacher (Kirkland, Wash.) and Austin Swift (Santa Cruz, Calif.) to sign on the dotted line.

So I heard from a pretty good source last month that McKay and Lynch would also be
leaving, but this sound like not. The Griz depth at the forward position I thought was a
strength last week. Easley was not all world but I really liked him as a roll player.
McKay not so much. The Griz really need to come up with a solid JC post player

These departures were not unexpected and were, in some ways, welcomed by Krysko's staff as they opened up some badly needed scholarships. Easly will be probably transferring to Minn-Duluth to see if he can get up some bigger stats so as to try to get a Euro contract. Lamar is a good athlete, but was mostly a disappointment and almost completely disappeared the last third of the season. Don't be suprised to see Lynch get his schollie cut in the event that he stays.

Watch out for the name Rashaun Broadus out of Western Nebraska, from Hawaii. Being recruited by Col. St, Houston, and Wyoming, but the coaches feel they have a very good shot at him.

Scout.com had him ranked pretty high his senior year (2001-2002)
just behind one of my favorite point gaurds "Nate the Great"

1) Chris Rodgers, 6-3, Portland (Ore.) Wilson
2) C.J. Watson, 6-1, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman
3) Armando Surratt, 5-9, Oakland (Calif.) Tech
4) Ashanti Cook, 6-1, Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester
5) Richard Midgley, 6-1, Modesto (Calif.) Modesto Christian
6) Jovance Coleman, 6-1, Fresno (Calif.) Hoover
7) Keion Kindred, 6-2, Compton (Calif.) Dominguez
8) Nate Robinson, 5-9, Seattle (Wash.) Rainer Beach
9) Travis Smith, 6-2, Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita
10) Frank Brown, 6-0, Las Vegas (Nev.) Durango
11) Tim Drisdom, 6-2, Downey (Calif.) Cavalry Chapel
12) Rashaun Broadus, 5-11, Milani (Hawaii) High

Did anyone notice Number 10 on that list? :drinking:

Man...I am a super detective to get this info on the JC point gaurd...

Rumors have it that there will be "up to 6" players who will be moving on, either by their choice, or the coaching staff's.

Grizpack, six is a large number. We know Farr and Easley for sure and I am going to assume that Lynch and McKay will be gone. Looking at the roster, if you are talking six scholarship players that could be back next year, then it makes it interesting whom the final two could be. But maybe the six include Chavez, Stapleton, and Thierry. Not sure, but six returning scholarship players seems like a bit many, but who knows.

5 is an easy number to grab ahold of when it comes to the numbers games...

1. Obviously Easley and Farr
2. McKay and Lynch
3. Mike Chavez. If Chavez was arrested again...I don't see how they can allow him back.
4. Along with Kamaar Graduating
That leaves five schollies open...with one left by wilkins...For six schollies for next year...

This is who is left on Schollie..and their year next year
1. Martin So.
2. Criswell Sr.
3. Mathhews Sr.
4. Dlouhy Jr.
5. Strait So.
6. Hasquet Fr.
7. Seyfert Sr.

Others. (not schollied)
8. Theirry So.
9. Stapelton So.

Incoming
10. Sharp Fr.
11. Swift Fr.
12. Staudacher Fr.

The NCAA schollie limit is 13 I believe, so that leaves three open for next year if everything occurs as it does. I don't see any of the top 7 leaving. The only one would be Matthews.

But anyhow, there will be a lot of turnover for next year. Obviouisly Krysko is putting his mark on this team and the type of players that he wants. Wish those who chose not to come back the best.

Scholarships opened up (known)

#1 Davis
#2 Wilkins (well has been open since he left)
#3 Easly
#4 Farr

Scholarships opened up (possibly)

#5 McKay
#6 Lynch

Scholarships not opened up (non-scholarship players this year)

Chavez ( had his scholarship pulled this year before the season)
Theirry
Stapelton

Assumed returnies

1. Martin So.
2. Criswell Sr.
3. Mathhews Sr.
4. Dlouhy Jr.
5. Strait So.
6. Hasquet Fr.
7. Seyfert Sr.

Incoming
8. Sharp Fr.
9. Swift Fr.
10. Staudacher Fr.

13 max scholarships.
So if McKay and Lynch are back you have one scholarship to offer in 10 days. If McKay and Lynch are gone you have 3 scholarships, and a big hole in the 4-5 possitions.

First off, the Kaiman didn't scoop eGriz. It was a couple days ago when posts started popping up about two players leaving. Just thought it was up to the coaches when they wanted the names to be announced. They waited until yesterday for a reason, so that's their choice, not ours.

Secondly, here's some stuff about Rashaun Broadus from another topic:

http://www.egriz.com/GrizBoard/viewtopic.php?t=8515

Scoop for scoop while egriz did have two players leaving, rumors of players leaving have been going on through-out the board for week and months. The kiaman was the first to name, names and back it up. I must give the kiaman the edge.

So the University of Montana loses two players, at least they weren't starters. And whose to say that they will really be missed? Farr hardly played the last part of the season and Easley fouled out regularly every time he went in. Yea we are losing some good guys, but we have so much more to gain. Lets look at it this way...Farr played for a Junior College in Wyoming, then came here and is leaving again. Where is his staying power? Easely Is leaving with 4 seasons under his belt, why leave your last season? Are these two guys leaving for selfish reasons or have they been wronged? I would love to hear more about why they are really leaving.[/quote]

There were about three or four people on the board who knew the two players leaving, but didn't want to disrepect the coaches/players by calling somebody out prematurely.

This was posted on Wednesday:

OK. There are a couple of players leaving. That is known for sure and rumors are starting to pop up, so might as well confirm that one. I'm going to let Krysko announce who they are when he feels the time is necessary.

To say that the Kaiman scooped the story is crazy. You can't really back anything up on a message board until a news source prints it anyways, can you?

Hey I did give out a hint for anybody who wanted to figure it out, remember?

So basically the griz have 3-5 scholarships to give out. Interesting, who is left in the recruiting scene. Was the coaching staff prepared for this?

A couple of questions for the people out there with reliable sources:

Why, after going to the dance, are there anywhere from 4-6 players thinking about leaving? I thought the program was on the rise.

Also, why potentially is the program taking schollies away?

Taking schollies away is a big deal to me. Who in their right mind would go to Montana, with the potential not to have a full ride for 4 years. Taking schollies is not a something good, ethical programs do. This falls back on the coaches not developing players. The staff offered the schollies for a committment. Time they should honor them.

if criswell transfers to western and hasquet joins henkel at carroll, McKay and lynch leave with easley and farr, and chavez isn't around then Martin, Strait, Dlouhy, Matthews, seyfert, stapleton, and thierry along with the three recruits will be left.

I have it from a pretty good source that Hasquet is going no where. My take is that the Griz have 6 schollies to offer. Davis, Easley, Farr, Lynch, McKay, and the Wilkens schollie.

With the exception of Easley the players leaving is a plus for the Griz and them. None are D-1. The Griz have to start settint their sites higher if they want to reach the level that is capable at Montana. You have to get out and see the world to understand what it takes to compete at D-1.
Coach K is headed in the right direction.
