Just Reported In Spokane

It seems like the witness account has enough to charge him, honestly. Unless there is something about the statement that makes it less than credible.

Booze. Inconsistencies between accounts. Not saying that for sure, but just a thought. Doesn't look good either way.

Really? If he doesn't get charged he can't even defend himself without getting suspended? Guess he's just supposed to let someone whale on him...

Did you not read it? He approached the guy outside after the original altercation. Guy clenched his fists so he kicked his ass. He should have walked away. Not escalated the situation.

And I've been in fights before so I'm not acting like it wasn't a mistake. But my feeling is he will still get suspended just because he was arrested for assault.

OK, I read both links. NEITHER say anything about your version. Where are you getting that?

Shaun Raineys twitter. Sorry, I thought it was in the article as well.

Said there was a fight, Justin helped break it up and he got hit. Later on, Justin approached the guy outside. Guy balled up his fists. Justin swung and hit him, knocking him to the ground. Guy tried to get up and Justin hit him again. Knocking him unconscious and fracturing his skull.

If that's the case, this looks pretty dang bad. I don't think you can cold-cock a dude for just "balling up his fists." And then follow it up with a skull-fracturing pounding (whether from a fist or pavement) while he's still recovering from that . That seems way out of bounds to me, and out of the realm of self-defense.

Since he apparently wasn't charged (yet), there must be other details/circumstances. The available info sounds pretty bad though. As BDizzle pointed out, as a bare minimum *TERRIBLE* judgment.

Hoping there's some justification forthcoming...

? for those who have been in a fight or two or have watched. What usually happens when some one in a fight hit someone in the head with a fist???? Right. A broken hand.

To break a skull or even concuss most personal weapons used are feet.

Really really impressive to break a pumpkin with a fist.

Thanks for the scum bag expert opinion.

I sure hope the kid recovers well. I realize all facts need to be addressed but if I had to put money on it, I would bet we have seen the last of Strong's playing days.

Seriously. I'm sure the head hitting the concrete had nothing to do with it.

No opinion offered. Just fact. When fist meets skull the most frequent fracked is fist

This is true^. I speak from experience.

How about this... just don't go to house parties during football season. every other weekend of the year go ahead. Football players at a house party - never ends with a good story.

Doesn't look good for self defense if you and your friends have to chase down a 5'9" track athlete who after being chased down clinched his fists when confronted.
Hammer throwers usually aren't small people.

first, strong is a senior and 22 years old, a MAN (adult man) supposed to be a leader of the team....this is awful, no matter how it all works out for strong or the young man in the hospital in Spokane.......if i am to believe Stitt's philosophy , Strong will be no where near Ogden on Saturday. as it should be.

As an outsider looking in I pray for all that is involved. Does not sound like a good situation at all.
I feel for the kid with the broken skull

Agreed. IF he keeps a spot on the team, make him sit at home this weekend. This should not be tolerated by the team. I do understand student athletes make poor decisions just like any young person, however, they also have to know they represent their university in many ways more than the average student. This is so infuriating and disappointing. I feel for him, especially if it was self defense-but come on man....make better decisions. I hope at the very least he learns from this.

Probably happened when his head hit the sidewalk or road, not from the fist itself is my guess.

Strong, regardless of whether or not it was self defense, shouldn’t play on Saturday. Conduct code might not require a suspension, but the coach should sit him a game anyways IMO. It’s not a question of his defending himself, if indeed it was self defense, but a question of why he was there in the first place. Very poor judgement on Strong’s part, and he put himself in a position that something like this could happen.

That said, Strong a little guy too, at 5-11

Agreed 100%. I'm also guessing this is likely to happen-and that is the best possible outcome in my opinion. Will, and should be, a lot worse if he is found to be guilty of more than self defense.

Is he 5'9 230 or 5'9 180 as that's a huge difference? It still doesn't justify any of this but I don't think we should paint this guy as the absolute victim who is small and was being bullied by strong or something along those lines

All reports so far say this guy put Strong in a head lock or sucker punched him so he's not entirely innocent and played a part in instigating it.

Height is not the only dimension to size.
