Junior...

There is no reason to believe he will not be on the roster. That's why they drafted him. Strange comment from the press. "Saturday, but his spot on the 53-man roster depends on whether Shanahan is comfortable with holding a roster spot for a returner only. "

Because every player drafted makes a teams 53 man roster?

Shanahan has a long history of ignoring the return game.

Recent 49ers draft picks from the Shanahan regime that did not make the initial 53-man roster:

2024
Round 6: 215th Overall - OL Jarrett Kingston, USC

2022
Round 6: 221st-Overall - DB Tariq Castro-Fields, Penn State

2019
Round 6: 198th Overall - Tim Harris, CB, Virginia

2018
Round 4: 128th Overall - Kentavius Street, DL, N.C. State

Junior was drafted to be a return man, and if he doesn't win the returner job, he will not make the 53-man roster. If he keeps showing out like he did, though, he has a great chance.

So, that shows that most 49ers' draft choices make the 53-man roster. And no 7th round draft picks didn't make it during that time period. Thanks for doing this.

It's really crazy to think about the early to mid 70's when there were 17 rounds and just 6 fewer teams, then it went to 12 and down to 8 for a year before 7. Just shows how much more they are scouting them in college.

By "idiotic" do you perhaps mean providing reasonable interpretations based on production?

Cause, that's kinda what we do around here. Or on any sports message board for that matter.
Reasonable interpretations based on production? I wish that were the case around here! I won’t profess to be an expert, but even a moron like myself knows there are only about 6-10 posters on here who use actual data and knowledge of the game to make interpretations :-)

Niners rookie WR Watkins out for a month with injury. This may give Junior more opportunities?
I imagine, based on Kyle and John's M.O., they might bring in another WR for the short term. Also, Jacob Cowing, Junior's main competition for the returner spot, is expected to return from his hamstring injury, so his main competition will be back on.

I dunno. One target. One catch. Minus 2 yards. One massively fucked up punt return.

Seems like actual data, since, you know, it comes from the box score and all.
