Does anybody know if we are recruiting this kid? I watched him play once last year and was pretty impressed with his athleticism and basketball iq.

We are, and being we put off this kid, we may lose him. He got recognized over the summer, and larger schools are after him now too. I do not know if he is GRIZ fan or not, but unless he is big one, my guess is he goes to play in better a conference than the BSC. From what I hear he made very good impressions over the summer, and his stock has risen a lot. Maybe MSLACAT can expand further.

According to Scout.com the Griz have offered him. Mslacat's blog has some good information about him, including some new info he posted today about Huestis and what schools are after him.

Thanks! That's quite the blog. Wow, I had no idea he was recieving that kind of attention. Good to see a Montana kid get those kind of offers. That Stanford one would be tough to turn down, considering he is a 4.0 student. Does anybody know if he has been here for a visit though? He would have a bigger effect on a program like Montana that a PAC10 school.

Josh has taken a couple unofficial visits to UM since last year. I know he came up for at least one football game last fall and was took in at least one basketball game last winter, maybe more. He has not said yet whether he take an official visit to UM (or MSU for that matter). Officials can not start until September. Athlete get a maximum of five, and Josh has already committed to taking one to USC (9-11) and one to Harvard (9-4).

Great blog mslacat! I just favorited it. Saw you had a posting about some of the montana kids that were getting some possible D1 attention a couple months ago. Are any of those guys getting any honest looks by us or anybody else? Always good to see Montana boys getting some attention. Keep up the great work!

I did two post I believe in March about possible D-1 basketball prospects in Montana. The first post

http://mslacat.wordpress.com/2009/03/05/montana-d-1-prospects-2010-class/

was about kids who I have heard were getting D-1 looks. Some of the prospects were getting more serious looks than the others. They were:

Josh Huestis who recruitment has exploded and is one of the most recruited Montana prospects in a long time.

Matt Miller who will not play basketball (Bowl division football is in his future, but yet many feel that if he was to give up football for basketball he could be a mid major type prospect in basketball. He hold offers from Huse and Tinkle, though.

Blake Brumwell who was offered and committed to the Bobcats to play basketball.

Corbin Pearson was the fourth and his stock has dropped a little but is still being monitored by a couple D-1 schools. Think former Bobcat Danny Sullivan.

The second part of my look at the junior class

http://mslacat.wordpress.com/category/msu-2010-recruit/joe-stulc/

I featured 6-7 Jacob Owsley of Bozeman and 6-5 Joe Stulc Winifred. These players were/are not being recruited by any D-1 teams that i was aware of, but I wanted to look at a couple players who may be late bloomers, and worthy of keeping an eye next year. Odds are against them getting recruited by D-1 teams but I like their potential for one reason or another, and it is possible one of them could become this year's Jack McGillis.

Since I have written those post another kid has jumped onto the radar and that is Jordan Overstreet of Three Forks. Jordan is a 6-2 combo guard who has improved is point guards skills enough that I am hearing that both Montana Schools are watching him. I do not know a whole lot about Overstreet but I hear, he most likely falls somewhere the two groups listed, but with a good senior year could really improve his stock.

Interesting that he's scheduled an official visit to Harvard. I THINK I remember reading in the Trib this year that all 5 CMR starters had 4.0 GPAs.

I should probably remeber him since I watched the State B last year, TF always has fun teams to watch, the Kimm's were always the ones that stood out to me, though, especially yhe older Kimm from a couple years back. I think those kids really benefit from good team ball, so I would be surprised if he does get picked up by either MT team other than an offer to walk on.

According to a person at CMR, Montana is still in the running for Heustis. But that was at the beginning of summer. Sounds like things may have changed a little.

I have watched Overstreet a couple of times. Good player. Not sure if he is BSC material. Would be a good Frontier conference player.

Huestis would be a great player for Montana...I've seen him play more than a few times, mainly at the past couple of state tournaments in GF and Butte. Yes he can score, but I mainly like his defense, his tenacity on defense. He contests shots on his man and anyone who drives the lane. He's an active, athletic kid...I would really like to see him in maroon and silver!

About 6 months ago it looked like a pretty good chance that Huestis would land with at least one of the Montana D-1 schools, although it was unclear which he might prefer. The only other school showing interest at that time was Santa Clara. Now it looks like that if either Montana State and Montana signed him it would be a major coup. He is being recruited by some heavy weight apathetically (although no elite schools yet) and academically. He already has official visits set up for USC and Harvard with a ton of other schools very interested. I beleive he just took an official visit to Gonzaga although I do not beleive they have offered. I would consider Gonzaga a favorite IF they offer.

If he is being recruited "apathetically" they probably don't really want him, huh? ;)
