Jonathon Smith

Husky fan here. I was curious what you guys thought of Jonathon Smith when he was your OC. There has been a lot of debate by Husky Fans about whether he is the right OC. He was coordinator of an offense that was the worst in the Pac 12. Did he do a good job in Missoula?

I don't think he had much control of our offense. I think coach Pflugrad ran the offense while he was here.. To me it seemed like he was around to help JJ Johnson progress as a football player more than calling plays.

I think the issues on offense for the Huskies had way more to do with not having a "go to" QB than it did Smith. I agree with 420, I thought Pflu pretty much had control of the offense for the short time they were in Missoula together. Smith was one of the many respected coaches to come out of the Griz program. 8-)

there was a story floating around that Smith got so frustrated by Pflu changing his calls that he said he would quit if it didn't stop, and it stopped...

While a Griz coach I never thought of him as a "bad" coach. His period here was short but in my mind he did a good job.

Huskies problems were not caused by Jon Smiths coaching or his play calling.

Smith was not at UM long and like the rest of Pflugrad's offensive staff had no past experience with the offense being run. He has a few years now with Petersen's offense, many more than he had with Pflugrad's.

Smith had no experience as a coordinator coming in to Montana. I was very skeptical on him, but he did very well his 2nd year here. The fact Petersen thinks enough of him to hire him as OC, says a lot. UW fans just need to be patient. Petersen is an excellent coach and will have success if given time.

Anybody that has watched Smith at Boise State and Washington knows that a quality quarterback does not exist for the Dawgs. Consistency at quarterback may come next year. Myles seemed lost a good part of this year. Peterson never would have recruited a field general like those he has at Washington. Smith was fine at Boise.
