That's exactly what EVERYONE in the country said the Griz WERE AND WEREN'T when they won the chip in 95. Most talking heads thought Read's offense was a flash in the pan, and nobody in their right mind would have ever considered the 95 offense anything resembling physical. INCLUDING the players who played in that offense. In fact, there are ALOT of modern Griz fans who absolutely can't name the Griz' starting RB on that team, or its leading rusher that season. And yet, that team won the school's first national championship.
Did Don Read have any TE's? Did he try to run 90 plays/game? Did he believe that the odds are in your favor going for it on 4th down?
I know he was a very creative offensive mind. I remember watching the offense having receivers seemingly running every which way from multiple formations and somehow one of them would be wide open and DD would find that receiver.
I would love it if Stitt was that type of creative genius, but I have my doubts, so far. Hopefully, next year we will know if we are moving in the right direction or not.
