They broke in 9 new defensive starters, replacing a senior laden class who won more national championships than games lost, and faced a gimmick offense. Congrats, the Griz joined USD, YSU, Indiana State, SDSU and JMU as teams to have won against NDSU since 2011.
The Griz got their ass completely and utterly embarrassed in the playoffs later in the year and the Bison won another national championship.
That game in Missoula, while revered by your fans, is the most irrelevant loss the Bison have ever had.
How did it impact them? Ya that is right, it isn’t like they didn’t completely curb stomp the Griz in the playoffs in that same season, didn’t win another national championship in that same season and the HC leading your gimmick offense didn’t get fired....it’s like you guys live in this bubble where the reality is you played a 1 in 100 game and caught lightning in a bottle with Bobs Titt for one single game... it is quite similar to Indiana State, USD etc etc.
Look, the Bison have played and won in Missoula. Your program has never won in Fargo.
Bison are better off scheduling games against other FCS teams, around the country, to increase nation-wide exposure vs locking themselves up with Montana schools who are known to not honor commitments.
The loss was not irrelevant. It was on national television in a highly rated game on ESPN with a top ESPN crew before the largest FCS crowd the Bison has ever played in front of, I assume.
When has NDSU ever played a more watched regular season FCS game? What NDSU FCS regular season game has ever gotten more attention, viewers, ratings?
"THIS WEEK: Two of the winningest programs in Football Championship Subdivision history will be featured on ESPN in the second annual "FCS Kickoff" game when four-time defending FCS champion North Dakota State plays at Montana on Saturday, Aug. 29. Do you guys not remember the fact NDSU tried to get into the Big Sky, and would have been playing in Missoula on an every year (or darn close) basis, but the AD at Montana was instrumental in saying no?
NDSU is doing what is right for them as an athletic department. I’m sure Montana wants more money than other programs for a head and head, and it probably doesn’t make financial sense. The goal every year for the Bison is find an FBS game, no D2 teams, and make sure there are 6 home games for fans. It is a smart scheduling philosophy.
Home and Home FCS games don't involve money.

The trust issue is easily overcome, but you have to cling to your silly narrative. It was done in the 2014/2015 home and home by having the game at Fargo first and increasing the buyout. Simple. Give it up baby. A home and home is not done today because NDSU fears playing in Missoula; it has nothing to do with trust.2011BisonAlumni said:kemajic said:What happened was a surprise $1MM AD deficit and a $700M offer from Iowa for a game on the same date, which was in 2006, not 2004. The ill will you espouse in your loose posting is more of your myth since NDSU had no problem rescheduling a home and home with Montana for 2014 and 2015, which we split. It's more likely that the loss at Missoula is not something NDSU wants to repeat as they are now ultra careful to minimize risk with their FCS scheduling in the interest of protecting the "domination."2011BisonAlumni said:Remember after 2003, when the Bison as a D2 team beat the Griz, the Griz backed out of the second half of a home and home in Fargo when they knew they couldn’t win? Sorry I did know it was 2006.
Montana, whined and bitched and complained about getting another game against the Bison ....desperate need to get national attention to help revive a program who was floundering. NDSU did it out of courtesy and moved on.
The facts are still the facts. Both Montana schools are known to not honor commitments. The Bison want guarantees of getting the backend of the home and home games, but the two Montana schools can’t be trusted.

Montana was hardly floundering back then. Both programs had openings to close the open home and home in 2008 and again in 2009. Montana made trips to the NC both years, while NDSU was going 6-5 and 3-8. Who was floundering? Montana was champing at the bit for revenge for the 2003 game they let get away; it was NDSU that took the easy way out by requesting the buyout, wanting no part of the Montana program building under Hauck. A program that had no problem with MVC competition, clearly visible to NDSU. It was only after NDSU got their own program rolling that they came around to the 2014/2015 agreement. Those facts are still facts.

Yes they do.
You just need to own the facts. The Griz have not honored commitments in the past. It’s a fact.
It is extremely hard to want to play against a program who has proven to bail when a better opportunity arises.

When the hundreds of analysts, coaches, players and sportswriters who said it should have been a flag also admit they were wrong.

You are so ridiculously wrong on this. What the hell was NDSU supposed to do, hold a gun to Montana’s head and force them to play?
August 2002- NDSU announces D1 move for 2004 season. Schedules a home and home against UM
December 2002- NDSU announces intent to apply for Big Sky membership
September 2003- NDSU plays #3 UM in Missoula as a D2 team and beats them.
December 2004- NDSU is turned down from Big Sky. Instrumental in the vote against adding NDSU is the University of Montana.
January 2006- Montana backs out of their commitment to play against NDSU
