Jeremy Calhoun Suspended

Calhoun and his family have paid almost $10,000 of medical costs for the guy who lost 2 teeth.

Calhoun's mom seemed very apologetic.

On the other pending citation. Looks like it won't be another game suspension even if it doesn't turn out we'll for him.

"Calhoun also is facing a disorderly conduct citation in Missoula Municipal Court, over which Beal is also presiding. In that case, he is accused of yelling profane language in public and calling a woman "a bitch." He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Aug. 31; his next hearing is set for Oct. 25.

UM Athletic Director Kent Haslam said Wednesday the university had not yet made a decision to penalize Calhoun for the citation, but was waiting for more information on the case. If a penalty is handed down, it would likely — in line with the student-athlete conduct code — be a minor punishment such as community service, notice to parents, suspension from practice, or something of a similar level, he said."

I agree. This is a harsh penalty for turning around in the midst of a brawl and punching the guy who just grabbed you from behind. Too bad he landed the punch. Getting in trouble again later was really stupid.

Did this dude just record an online video?

He recorded the courtroom monitor showing the fight in question
Ahh. That explains the use of Windows Media Player. :thumb:

That looks more just like a scuffle....and why the hell are football players and basketball players always fighting with each other???

Okay. $500 that Calhoun was given the N word during this incident. Put up or shut up.

Different subject Mr. Know It All and you know it! Old white "Chuck Rhodes"...you know the guy whose son you know very well and used to play fat man city league hoops with...the same "Chuck Rhodes" who you bet me $500 played for the Griz bball team in the '50s.

.....but on further review you were blowing smoke. Old white "Chuck Rhodes" apparently never did letter for the Griz bball team. (Black) Rudolph "Zip" Rhoades (different spelling) in fact did star for the Griz bball team in the 1950's. His name throughout Griz media books...the same Griz media books that have records of basketball letter winners going back quite a ways (the '50s) where there is no "Chuck Rhodes" listed. HA!!

I sure hate to change the subject of this thread but hoping some on here see you for the blow hard you are. I did the research to confirm you didn't have a clue...and you quietly went away....never to be hear from (or pay the bet!) on the subject again.

Put up or shut up!

Put up or shut up.

Okay, so you are afraid to bet me on the Calhoun thing? Right?

The prior question was not whether Rhodes "lettered" for the UM. It was whether he played for UM in any year. I need to visit the athletic office to do some research and/or check some old Kaimins. Still think I'm right.

I don't recall ever actually making this bet with you, but please give me that language where the bet got made with you if I did. Feel free to PM it, and the link, if you want.

It's hard to believe what a Pompous pRick (PR) is on this and every egriz thread she feels she must chime in on. No one else on egriz interrupts so many threads to criticize, insult, belittle, correct, bet with, challenge, …. other egriz members like the Pompous pRrick (PR). What is wrong with this person?

Some psychologist should evaluate PR. Perhaps they can identify a new mental disorder and name it after PR. Pompous pRick disorder?

Ranger, don't you understand how important PR is to Grizzly football? He is the self-anointed "spokesperson" for the coaches and players. He chases them around Missoula and gets in their face to ask them stupid-assed questions, so he can come to this site and quote them. I am quite sure they love reading on this site what they supposedly stated to him. But, on second thought, this could be the reason they run every time they see him coming, as one former assistant coach told me. Trouble is, he is like a sticky booger, and you just can't avoid him.

+1 I have looked at that video 5 or 6 times now and for the life of me don't understand why it turned into this other than it's a football player. Yes the kid got his teeth knocked out, but you decided to intervene by grabbing him dude. Guess I'm like the others on here and would've been in some trouble back in the day for stupid stuff that I did after hours.

Bottom line is you are a Pompous pRick. Why don't you stop thinking you are God's gift to egriz? Quit interrupting threads to criticize, insult, belittle, correct, bet with, challenge, …. other egriz members. You are pathetic. Don't you have anything else in your life beyond hassling others on egriz? Just go away.

Yep the tweets are interesting. Initially it was Justin fighting with Dominique Bobo (track athlete I beleive) and Jeremy jumped in to help break it up he claimed and then the victim (no idea who) pulled Jeremy out and Jeremy hit him twice and knocked out his two front teeth. Victim admits to swinging back as well in self defense.

This was supposed to be a quick plead guilty hearing and go on the merry way but it’s turned into a bit more now with self defense claims from both sides and video surveillance reviews.

Interesting Justin started the dominoes, and Jeremy paid the biggest price
Did Justin have any disciplinary action taken against him? I get Jeremy had 2 separate incidents but nothing, wierd considering he was in the initial fight which led to this.

I was wondering about this too

It sucks for Calhoun, because everyone in the world knew...the first guy, to get into a fight or something like this downtown...under the scrutiny and public backlash over the Hauck hiring, the first guy was gonna get hammered when they messed up.

This was the one everyone was waiting for

Yes, he was forced to move from receiver to corner. Ha.

I don't have a problem with what UM did under the code of conduct and what Hauck did/does, although I hope Calhoun is allowed to get back on the field after game 3. While I assume Hauck considers Eastwood to be good, and Eastwood now has a big head start, based on seeing Calhoun the past several year, I think he'd be a big help to the team.

I think the legal penalty and sentence is way too harsh. I have never heard of one punch, even one causing 2 teeth to get knocked out or something similar, resulted in a 24-month suspended sentence. And, then when it's considered that the punch came after being grabbed from behind during a free for all (and when it appears that Jeremy was not in the fight at the time), and $10,000 has been voluntarily paid for the replacement of the teeth, the legal penalty seems huge. I could make an argument for no charge at all, if the restitution is paid and an apology made.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the legal penalty. Granted, I don't know what the standard penalty is for something like this in Missoula County. Two years, even suspended, seems wild for a misdemeanor. Probation, sure. Two years, suspended seems excessive if a suspended sentence means what I think it means. My understanding is that he will have to say he was technically sentenced to two years in jail. Maybe someone can help me understand?

The sentence is deferred, not suspended, which means he has no record if he stays out of trouble for 24 months. It only works if he is committed to walking the straight and narrow. He has an outstanding criminal defense attorney. We will not see Jeremy Calhoun in trouble again after he completes his suspension.
