Marty's a poor man's John Madden. Lots of knowledge, but sometimes his brain lacks the synapse spark, so things just don't come out of his mouth as planned.

Marty is great. Off the cuff and more knowledgeable than anyone on this forum. Jay is ROUGH to listen to IMO. They are quite the duo

The cats' announcer is smoother and more articulate than Jay, but doesn't have any more football knowledge. In cat Griz last year he was calling every pass out to the flat as a screen and then Ty would have to correct him on what the route actually was. He's definitely a lot more polished than Jay but has the same low football IQ. Call me crazy but I feel like the person doing the play-by-play should have some idea of the basics of football. I agree, Marty definitely won't be mistaken for Troy Aikman or Mike Tirico anytime soon, but he does have great insight and will prompt a laugh from his absurdity. BTW, honestly how good was Marty on Saturday. Personally I thought he killed it. Might have been his best broadcast ever. Until this Saturday anyway.

That's kind of what makes Marty so very cool. Like Joe Craven during the basketball tournament. They are true BSC treasures and we are so lucky to have them.
Did anyone catch Jay's flub Saturday when Weber State scored a touchdown and Jay said, "Touchdown Montana" yikes...
Jay just has to raise his PBP skillset up a little bit; at least above the tits.

Jay is a very nice guy and arguably a Montana treasure, but he's not a football announcer. He doesn't have the familiarity, comfort, or insight to speak on the sport or team for three hours. And I think it's fair to say he's shown his interest level in getting there. It didn't work for MTN to cut this particular corner and plug in a familiar face. It's time to hire a play-by-play professional.
