Griz win maybe 2 games on that slate. They beat No Col and New Mexico. There is absolutely no way they beat Tulsa. The only toss up is San Jose State. Air Force beats the Griz by 20+.

The Washington win last year was special. Teams look past lesser opponents and the lesser opponents often treat these games as their "super bowls."

But, shouldn't be fooled by this...the MWC conference slate is considerably harder than the BSC...week in and week out.

Not saying the Griz with additional scholarships cannot compete...but, not in current form.

Tulsa?! You mean the Tulsa that lost to UC Davis last year? Yeah we would definitely lose that game :roll: and San Jose?! The same San Jose state that got their shit pushed in by a putrid colorado state team. Yeah no….we win that game too. Dude, I watch a shitload of MWC football and there are only 4 teams in that entire conference that are capable of actually drubbing Montana by 3-4 scores on any given Saturday, and that’s pushing it.

You know, this entire conversation reminds me of what Bill Napier's Defensive Coordinator, Ken Wilburn, would tell the kids arguing about who would beat so-and-so if they were to play: "Shut up! If the queen had balls she'd be king and that sure as heell isn't going to happen! The bitch ought to be happy with what she's sitting on! A fucking goldmine!" Ken was 81 and still coaching.

I also watch a ton of MWC football. I agree that there are a few teams that in it's current state would not be close yet. They would not beat San Jose or Fresno. Compete yes, but not wins. You can't extrapolate last years games with this year. If that's the case, Rocky wins the NCAA tourney back in the late 90s. They beat MSU-B, who beat Alaska Anchorage, who beat Purdue in the great alaska shootout, who beat duke, who won it all. A better solution would be to watch the season play out and see how those teams do then look at it. I 100% agree with 22 more scholarships they have better horses and can compete week after week. Also, would be with a watered down conference only. As is, they would take years to get even close to BSU and SDSU to compete for championships. Again, that is really what I mean long term is MWC championships. Just my opinion. I am not anywhere near as qualified as many of you to make these comparisons. I HAVE, though, played the game, been on the sidelines for D1, D2, and NAIA football. Been part of NCAA National championship teams at D2 level, and been to a bowl game caring for the players. I have seen a lot of football. They are CLOSE, but as is, not where you think they are to be good enough to make a bowl (as would happen with a winning MWC record).

Ok let’s go off this years Wyoming conference slate and see where we end up if we were to substitute Montana into their schedule. This year the cowboys play Air Force game one. I’ll pencil that in as a loss for UM but it would be a competitive game IMO. UM has historically struggled with that offense though so I’ll say loss. Then they play San Jose which is a game I think we win followed by the New Mexico lobos, another game we win IMO. Then we take a loss vs Utah state in a competitive game. Toss up vs Hawaii, win vs Colorado state, toss up vs Fresno and loss vs Boise. Tallying it up that puts my guess at worst case where we lose the toss ups at 3-5 in conference. Wyoming also plays Illinois (loss), Tulsa (win) and norther Colorado (win). That puts us at 5-6 year one if we lost every toss up. Not great but not bad for having 22 less scholarships either. Of course this is all hypothetical.

However, after the bell rings, everything changes like it did in the Washington game and by halftime, Montana wasn’t the lesser team in the minds of the Washington players or coaches. Our talent level was up to the task, our coaching superior and we beat them in their own stadium.

Rare is the undefeated team in almost any conference. Montana will lose games in the Mountain West Conference, however, they will be competitive and I predict will battle for the conference championship in year three. After our players individually believe we can consistently win in the Mountain West, Katie Bar The Door!

Since the 2004 season when ndsu started playing in the fcs/1AA, their overall record is 190-37...during that same time frame montana u. Is 142-60....
