It's not just UM...

Wow, with "great lighting" and a "superior" HVAC system, the BSC should just schedule all future tourneys at the Oh Well.

Yup, which is what Macriss mentioned in the article. At a bare minimum we need to see movement on a fund raising effort on the issue.
I think the Gateway (drug) Project might have a better chance of coming to fruition than this pipe dream. Okay, probably not, but it seems close. I think you guys are biting off more than you can chew and/or digging yourself into a hole. Sounds like your AD will be happy to break even
Macriss hopes if Sac State hosts the tournament, it isn’t a money loser, despite all the costs associated with rentals, setup and tear-down.
“We’re making every effort to keep this revenue neutral and maybe even make a little money through sponsorships, tickets sales, program sales and other revenue streams,” Macriss said.
Do these tournaments ever make money for the school? I know the FCS FB playoffs are usually big money pits (except for UM). Even if it is all donated, thats still a tall order (hoops, floor, bleachers, risers, tarp, portable locker rooms, good lord!). Somehow they plan to cover that with ticket and program sales? Sounds a little sketch to me, but what the hell do I know.

This quote also had me scratching my head:
“Fortunately, most of the bills don’t start coming until we actually know we’re hosting the tournament and we start to build.”
What? Did he mean to say UNfortunately? Dude sounds like a college kid with a new credit card. I guess this could be really good for SuckSt or really bad. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. UM knows all about big deficits and abusing credit.

I think he is saying that the college hasn't incurred much debt during the planning phase. It would be unfortunate if the college spent a lot of money on the temporary setup just to find out that SacState wasn't going to host the event.

Good. That makes more sense. Thx.

I just have a hard time believing the best way to get a new arena or start the funding raising for one is to go into debt.

When inflation finally kicks in, which it will, any debt now for capitol improvement might be an absolute bargain.

Yup…or that some of the planned set up could be called off for no charge if we end up not hosting. If there is a loss taken on the BSCT it will more than likely just be covered from the University’s general fund, like every other money losing program/event/activity that happens on campus.

Being very familiar with the WELL, I can say it will be extremely loud in there for anyone who plays SAC if we host. The acoustics will be like yelling into a 50 gallon drum.

How cold is it?

this is a question egriz denizens get asked a lot. blah.

I see someone received his shipment of "Word of the Day" toilet paper. A simple thank you would be nice.

Sure do..things are going very well for me, my neighbors and our city. The State is doing pretty well too....

Hosting a tournament two hours away was seen as a public relations nightmare for Sac State and the community.

Yeah. 'Cause that's the PR problem....

 but still I give sac state credit for putting a plan together. A small part of me wants to see sac host - could be spectacular, and as a spectator this will be like gold - a no lose situation.

The building is only few years old, the HVAC is superior. It'll be mid 70s anyway next week, so nothing to worry about...

In little league parlance we would call that a swing and a miss!

Sorry, guess I'm not in on what is probably the world's least interesting inside joke.

I would say you most definitely are not on the inside of that joke. its a really old one here. you have to watch the football threads, sooner or later the pregame back and forth veers into home field advantage and how the cold is our buddy. CDA was pretty funny for bringing that into a bball thread!

The Conference can now breathe easier. It will not be forced to have its tourney in a make shift center instead of a university level gym. I kinda feel for Sacto as they put out a good team for the first time in decades and got close. They could still win the NCAA bid, and if UM loses, I'd like to see that happen. It might just give Sacto the motivation to do something about their facilities. though, I doubt it.

FYI gents, here in Colorado the University of Northern Colorado is always referred to as UNC. That's just how it is. I've never heard anyone say 'NCU'.

Then listen up: it's NCU. Always has been, always will be.
