You all keep separating out one factor at a time which you hold up and evaluate. The reality is that it's a combination of several factors which all need to be evaluated concurrently. Not one single factor will eliminate nor confirm a media value but together in conjunction with the ultimate desired outcome will determine its value.

I think I'm in the wrong biz. I need to start a handball conference in the LA/OC region. Think of all the potential viewers. ~15 million. The advertisers will be knocking down my door. Just because nobody has watched it historically, they could start. If that's how ad dollars roll in, I will be rolling in it.
HATED the move at the time. And 20 years later (or however long it's been) I still hate it.
The BSC has done a piss poor job of developing and promoting the value of the conference! Their lack of foresight in promoting the anchor schools and leveraging the assets because it feels it needs to play the same with all the members has come back to bite them in the a$$.

Probably would have been more if it wasn't for things like Northern Colorado, Portland State, and the stigma of the FCS label.

Well, I have flipped the channel to ESPN a couple times and witnessed tag and guys running around keeping a balloon from hitting the ground, so anything is possible.
They think they can cover Pac-12 NIL requirements with $5 MILLION a year????? lolololololol....

Yeah, but I'm talking about bringing it to a market where it's already played and selling it to the advertisers who will jump at the chance to drop coin due to the potential viewership. BTW, I'm not talking about that Olympic handball (which is a joke, and a sport the US would dominate if we just took the next 15 NBA players who didn't make the Olympic BBall team and taught them for three days), I'm talking about the handball that's played like racquetball without racquets. So many potential viewers.
UM heavily recruited those areas prior to Foolerton's Folly.
I'll rephrase: how did those areas help the bsc with television ratings/viewership/money, which was, after all, what the discussion was about

But this goes to the heart of the matter, MMF. No one cares about Sac athletics either. That's the point I'm making. A lot of eyes are terrific, but only if they're watching.
