Is our kicking game a coaching issue or talent issue?

What was this thread originally supposed to be about?

I know how we can all help our kicking game. Let's see which kicker can put their foot squarely up those derailing this thread up their ass. The one that does it best gets the job. :thumb: :D

If it's a talent issue, it's a coaching issue. Coaches are responsible for recruiting, prioritizing ST development and monitoring execution. If a DI programs has no talent it is a coaching issue. Period.

Maybe it's a (lack of available) scholarship issue.

Maybe. Do you know if that's why Worst took off?

Don't know. Think Lider has or had a partial schollie.

This week's depth chart for Idaho.

Placekickers:

Austin Rehkoh - sophomore
Jordan Burke - JC

Rehkow has kicked both FG's and all XP.

Worst is listed on roster.

Scholarship availability for ST players is a priority issue managed by the coaching staff irrespective of whether the total is 63 or 59. I doubt schollie support for Dan Carpenter was a low priority. It starts with recruiting priorities.

So should UM have given Reese's scholarship to a kicker? Can you at least admit that it's harder to give top/needed players a scholarship if the number available has been reduced by 4?

Did Carpenter come on a full scholarship?

Was the original topic about sex and football?

Or was it concerning kicking the drug habit?

Could the Obama lovers please move further to the left......uh X-bar?

No way ever does Worst have a chance in beating out Rehkow.....

NDSU has excellent special teams' (especially the kicking game) play. Their field goal unit converted 5 FGs; that's 15 points. The Griz lost by a touchdown.

The kicking game is a coaching issue; it's been a coaching issue for 3 seasons.

Hire an exceptional special team coach. Recruit a kicker and a punter and offer them preferred walk-on or partial scholarships. Fix your kicking game or continue to lose winnable football games.

Every summer there are nearly as many kicking camps as quarterback camps across the country. You won't get better hanging out with Shaw playing Halo 4 all summer.

Hauck was special teams coach. Glenn used to talk about timing kickers being one of his roles, probably not a kicking guru, but was at least involved. I doubt Delaney is.

Punting the ball rolling out and soccer kicking it is far more accurate and can create issues for the returner. Advantage is easier for a fake, pass, very hard to block and the ball is hard to handle for the returner. Disadvantage is the kick is usually shorter.

In any event I would want my punter kicking for the side line and the coffin corner. Why the hell kick the ball straight down the middle and have it bounce into the end zone? That style nixes most run backs.

Shaw, I like a lot but I want him to speed up his wind up!!!!

I'm not judging anything; just stating the obvious fact that some seem to miss. The coaches set the priorities, not eGriz. So either challenge what I said or take your attack elsewhere.

Yes, I will agree if kicking is a lower priority than a third string position player, then use the schollies for position players. Re. Carpenter, since you know everything Griz, you tell us how much schollie coverage he had over 4 years. I don't know the answer, but I know it wasn't zero.

Since your normal defensive posture is exhibited here, are you saying you look favorably at the ST priority (recruiting, coaching, emphasis, success) we have had since BH left?
