The answer is no, it’s not surprising.
What is surprising is the massive drop off we have from QB1 to QB2. How in the world do we not have a back up QB who can keep the offense moving along in some capacity? Literally from LJ to KB is like A to Z. They couldn’t be more different in their abilities and style of play. KB is not a gamer. I don’t care what he does in practice. I don’t care that the staff trusts him because of what he has shown in practice. He shits the bed in games and is not a gamer at all. Give me a f###[#] gamer…..anyone! This travesty is on the coaches for not having a back up QB who can still play ball and make the offense go. Other teams have this dynamic, how have we failed so miserably at it.
I agree with you Hooked. When looking at the Griz team going into this season, I saw a ton of talent both on defense and offense. I really thought this team would go very far and maybe they still will. On the other hand, I thought the Cats would drop off because of the player losses last season. The difference it appears is in the respective coaching staffs. The Cat's ended the season with Tucker Rovig after Tommy got hurt. The Cat coaches knew they needed to go out and get a better backup QB and they did it in Chambers. The Griz knew what they had in a backup in Brown going into the season and they didn't do anything. Also, knowing they were going into the Weber game with Brown and his shortcomings, the coaching staff didn't show any creativity in using the other offensive weapons to help make up for them. When the Cats had no running backs the coaches were very creative with the other offenive players and were successful. The other big coaching contrast is with the respective offensive lines. OL has been a big weakness now for the past few years with the Griz. The OL coach appears to not have done a good job of recruiting or developing players. On the other hand, the Cats lost almost the entire starting OL last season. This season the Cat OL has not missed a beat. The OL coach has done a great job in recruiting and developing good depth. In fact, in that Weber game we were down two starting offensive lineman with injuries and they were still able to put up almost 500 yds of offense.
It seems very obvious, the Griz have some coaching problems that will need to be addressed at the end of the season. Lot's of years of friendship with Hauck and the staff. Will Hauck do anything?
