Is Haslam waiting too long?

At this point who knows what's going on. I would think if Kent has offered the position to a coach with there season over, that coach either is waiting to decide or turned the offer down and Kent is going down the list.

Maybe the coach Kent wants is still coaching and he has to wait to announce once that coaches season is over?

Or is this job less desirable than what we believe it to be? Tons of pressure from fans and booster with very, very high expectations. Pay is so so in the coaching world at the FCS level. We look to upgrade some facilities but they are not in place and a tangible recruiting tool.

At this stage If Kent has a coach that has excepted the job it would be announced I belive. Once a coach excepts the job that next team is and should be his priority. There are recruits in the balance and the longer you wait the more risk you have in them moving on. Kent might of called all the recruits and said there scholarship will be honored. This however does not give comfort to a kid that might feel worried that a coach might be hired where they don't fit into that coaches style.

I get a feeling Kent is still looking for someone to except what he has to offer.

I think TY at this stage is a back up or could be named as an interim coach, should Kent not find a taker for the job.
someone that indecisive might not be the right person to hold a position of Athletic Director.

He is caught between a rock and a hard place.....$$$$ threats from big boosters wanting one, but thinking the other is the best choice.

Naming Ty as an interim coach would be a total mess. He would have to make a hire to fill at least one vacant spot and then everyone operates for an unknown stretch of time. Meanwhile what if Ty wants to make changes? Does he have permission to do so? If Ty is the head coach just make him that, don't handcuff him with some interim tag.

Other than the Washington family, does UM athletics have that many big $$$$ boosters? If there were more, wouldn't they be pushing for "move up"? Big boosters have gotten programs more respected than UM into great problems.

No kidding. If Portland State is doing something you should know it's a bad idea.

I think UM has about a half dozen athletic donors, or potential athletic donors, capable of making a seven figure donation. Only 2 of them would be fully capable or likely to donate over say $2 or so million. Of these 6, 4 have weighed in for Hauck. One didn't, but his horse is out of the race. Don't know where he stands now. Don't know about the views of the 6th. I don't think any of the 4 I know have been pushing to move up.

If TG was the guy - then why wait? Wouldn't you announce it ASAP for security of your recruiting class and to calm the waters with fans ( or create a miserable tidal wave in the case of egriz). I really can't think of a logical reason to wait if he is the new HC. Unless he is contesting the pay and arguing over being handcuffed about choosing his own staff. Doubtful in my opinion and I know damn near everything. Just ask me.

Bobby would be an excellent choice to return our program to dominance should Haslam offer him the position. His Griz teams were the total product, well coached in every aspect of the game. He is an excellent recruiter and is well acquainted in the Griz primary recruiting areas.

I agree...Bobby Hauck, if available and is interested, is the best choice to start winning in 2015. Haslam would be crazy to pass him up.

Haslam would be a batshit retard to hire a guy that can't win at the next level back to UM. Why would anyone with a pulse want to hire a guy who won 14 games in 4 seasons?

agreed

It is a 2 horse race ...BH and BP. TG is not in it, but will stay on as DC....according to some who are more knowledgeable than 99.9% of Egriz posters (I trust what they told me since I am a .01% guy.)

Belechick couldn't win in vegas.

Haslam is taking too long and he is not looking very good in the process. MD's possible resignation or termination was known all season. Athletic director's normally start looking for possible replacements early rather than later. Also, MD's formal announcement occurred more than three weeks ago. There are probably some facts and circumstances related to the hiring search that we don't know about that may be impacting the process but he needs to act soon as recruiting is so important. At this point he must know who all the candidates are. He needs to get it done. If the first choice does not accept then he needs to move to the second choice. I thought BH was a safe choice but he may be looking to get someone new to UM.

Why isn't Matt Lubick getting more consideration? Looking at his resume it looks stellar with lots of experience at the FBS level and Montana ties. Is he just holding out for a FBS HCing position?

Perhaps because the guy he really wants is making him wait, so he is continuing to interview to cover all bases.

With the timing of the resignation of Bobby at UNLV, and the Griz looking for a head coach, it's not just a coincidence. Bobby didn't have a great reign at UNLV, but getting that program to a bowl game for the first time in 13 years is a major feat! (Especially with unrealistic expectations of the boosters down there). Bobby brings a winning tradition back to Montana! He coaches the special teams and brings a fire back that we've been missing. It's a great fit. He brings with him his brother-possibly-and would bring excitement back to the program. Can't wait 'til the announcement!
