Barnum to guide Portland State football in 2015

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Portland State said Monday interim football coach Bruce Barnum will maintain the lead role of the program for the 2015 season.

Barnum, who was the team's offensive coordinator over the past five seasons, was named the temporary successor to Nigel Burton after Burton was fired on Nov. 26 following a 3-9 season.

Barnum was given a 12-month contract as interim head coach to maintain continuity within the program after Portland State names a new director of athletics, expected after the new year begins.

A native of Vancouver, Washington, Barnum has helped Portland State compile the top four rushing totals in school history over the last four years, averaging over 200 yards rushing per game each season. In 2013, the Vikings ranked third in the nation in total offense (540.5 yards per game).

His coaching stops prior to Portland State included Cornell, Idaho State, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and American International.

His team is expected to have 16 returning starters next season: six on offense, eight on defense and two on special teams.

So what they are saying is opponents can still expect their linebackers to be taken out at the knees by Viking receivers for one more season?

Wow. How do you recruit?

Also, could this be because they are studying the continued feasibility of football in it's current form?

I think that's what you do while you think about whether you really want to have a football team.
