There are many things that can be said about today's game. To say it was a bad game for our boys in maroon and silver would be an understatement. Chalich should have been given his chance to make a difference. The fact that we continued to play Gus long after he had proven he was ineffective is a spit in the face to Chalich's senior year. Stitt and his staff's inability to be able to answer the MSU running game was embarrassing.
That being said, even as an MSU Alum, I couldn't be more proud to be wearing my Griz colors today. The way the cats have handled their win and the game atmosphere as a whole today was embarrassing. To walk into the stadium today and see one of the COACHES running around the field with his shirt off, bouncing around trying to pump up his players was comical. To hear one of the line coaches yelling obscenities and dropping the f-bomb so frequently and loudly we could hear it 5 rows up into the north end zone was incredibly distasteful, especially given the family atmosphere of the stadium.
The real breaking point for me today was watching Newell run over with a white board to Griz Parents section after the game beating his chest, waving the board around showed an incredible lack of class. Coming from a senior I would expect more, but it is clear this mentality starts at the top with the coaching staff. The Bobcat players continuing to heckle the Griz players long after the final whistle when the team has come together in front of their parents was disgusting.
Our returning players have some work to do and the coaches have some rebuilding to do. We have some big players we are losing this year and there are a lot of question marks at key positions. If we can get some consistency out of the offense and shore up the defense we will come back with a solid team. The coaches need to get their Stitt together because they were completely out-coached by a coach that had not shown any amount of competence until this game. The burden is on the coaching staff now to put something together for next year.
At the end of the day I'm damn proud to be a Griz fan. I will continue to bleed maroon and silver and you can bet your last dollar I will be renewing my season tickets for next year. Thanks to all of the seniors and the years of memories and epic games they have given us. Looking forward to next year already to see how these returning players improve.
