If you had told me (us) ...

How'd you like to be a William & Mary fan? (I know ... not likely.)

They lost in their earlier game at Richmond 20-9 (not terrible, but a fairly good spanking). Today they got blown out even worse than the Griz, 48-13. Yet W&M was 8-3 going into that game, so you can hardly say they "didn't belong."

If you would have told me that the Griz D held NDSU to 24 points, I'd would have said that we would have won that game. Add to that the Griz D did that for 40 minutes of ToP and only allowed one 3rd down to convert!

We are all (well, most of us) loyal, long time fans who are not NFL/ESPN rated college analysts. Us regular fans wonder why we lost status enough to be embarrasssed by any program in our division and why, with an offensive genious as coach, we dont come out in the second half and figure out a way to at least move the ball with our legitimalely big time set out starting recievers. We love of Griz but we deserved better today. We are fine with looking for the positives but lets be realistic regarding what happened.

There were guys open...Brady just struggled getting them the ball...

What's their mascot anyways? Not that I'm going to change teams or anything.... :thumb:

Yep Tye's D will do well again next year, patchwork as it was all year.
it will also do well patchwork all next year with a ton of new faces starting.

It's our hard headed genius OC  that needs to see a little reality
and stop moving away from what working and towards to what he thinks needs to work?

If a team is going to set up the run by passing,
shouldn't they pass until it's being taken away then Run?

The team nickname is "The Tribe" and, according to their web site, the mascot is the Griffin, "a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle." I guess if you're into fantasy games, that might be pretty cool, otherwise ... meh.

In all fairness, Stitt mentioned in his post-game presser that the lack of a run game was the main reason we couldn't get going on offense.

We've got some good linemen coming in and a great coach in Germer. All signs point to improvement next season.

The Griz running game is too predictable right now. Even the broadcasters from ESPN3 discussed it last week. They'll have to change that
next season.....

Took a big part of the season for the OLine to be basically competent .. for which, give them credit. But a versatile running games requires flexible blocking schemes, etc. Does not look like they're ready for that right now.

I really don't think that it was just the lack of a running game that did us in. We haven't really been able to run to set up the pass pretty much all season. I don't know why we were trying it again today, especially against the defense we were facing. Our offense is always much better when we pass to set up the run but we didn't really try to do that today. Of course doing so would probably be much more successful if the QB could hit the broadside of a barn.

That's just convoluted and weird.

At Mines, Stitt generally had a ratio of 350 passing to 100 running, and he rarely had QB's that ran much at all. In his last two years there he did get a QB that could run the ball, and was able to run 60-80 yards a game.

Exactly. I like Stitts offense but its a pass first offense. If he wants a run first offense bring in tight ends and a fullback.

Griz run/pass decision is based on how many defenders are in the box....time and time again NDSU's 5 guys in the box beat the 5 Griz lineman and stuffed the run....

With our line we should only run when there are three in the box, maybe four. [emoji854]

While I'm glad the Griz made it this far... It is a bit embarrassing to be completely blown out in the playoffs. It shows that we didn't really belong. It also shows just how weak Stitts system is. All you have to do to beat the Griz is rattle the QB. The rest will take care of itself. With so much of the defense graduating next year and most of the same people on offense returning (including this atrocious line), every game will be tough sledding. We barely made it here because of a fluke play against the worst team in a mediocre conference. With a graduation weakened defense, how will we stay in games when Stitt's offense goes stone cold? Time will tell, but I ain't holding my breath for a "championship team" or even one that is "scary good."

Easy Debbie downer

As expected -- and perfectly natural -- posters are now agonizing over what went wrong ... woulda, coulda, shoulda. And that 's certainly legit ... but it's largely meaningless since UM will have a new team next year, with many of the current players gone and a whole new crop of recruits.

Still ... the simple fact remains that the Griz accomplished far more than almost anyone would have predicted even at a bit past mid-season.

And I think we accomplished more than we would have under most other coaches. That' just my humble opinion, but I believe it to be true.

Yes, as they have for most of the year, the D made that game winnable. It is unfortunate Brady and the O had such an off performance. Some credit for that goes to the NDSU effort, but only some.
