If you could change....

1. Peter Nguyen is not the running back this offense needs. Take away a 20 yard run that took advantage of an edge blitz by Weber and his average for the day was the same as the other backs. Peter can't take on tacklers and fall forward, he's just not big enough. He'd be much better suited as a slot receiver, as said already.

2. Offensive line play. I won't pretend to know enough about Stitt's offense to say it's a scheme problem or whether it's an execution problem, but the fact is that our running game is terrible and we're down to a third QB. Get a fullback in there, bring in a tightend, do something to keep the QBs upright.

3. Get the ball to our All America caliber receivers. Henderson and Jones should both be catching 6-8 passes per game, at least 10 yards down field. Chase Naccarato on a 3 yard screen is not the answer. Getting Roberts and Carlson involved in the middle of the field would be a big help as well.

1. Running game issue is because of #2. Does not matter who is carrying the rock.

2. Its an execution issue.

3. Isn't happening because of #2 and because of inexperience at the QB position. Much easier said than done.

take away nguyen's 21 yarder, and he still averaged more than a yard more per carry than the other backs (2.8). take away calhoun's longest run, and he averaged 1.0 yards per carry. take away favors' longest run and he went for 0.5 yards per carry. gawd, the stupidity.

I didn't say that any of the other backs had a good day. Focus on the issue: Nguyen isn't a good between the tackles runner, something this offense needs badly. Carry for carry, Counts, Logwood and Calhoun are better backs in a single back, 4 wide running scheme.

you have no real evidence to back up this assertion. why do you continue?

I agree with Payton the punt return game is in disarray. Mental mistakes. I think the Oline is a train wreck. They will have to up the recruiting and bring in bigger guys with quicker feet. We are half way through the season and if anything they are regressing. It not that they aren't giving it their all, they are trying their best. The talent is just not there. The offense will be challenged the rest of the season regardless of who the quarterback is.

The bye week can at a great time to get players healthy and hopefully make a push. The Griz have lost 3 games by 1,3 and 10 points. So as bad as it feels, it's possible that they could be 5_1 or even 6-0.

Wow, check out the FCS Standings! They have the Griz at 5-1!! They changed our win/loss record!! I guess they agreed with this post!! Just bummed we can't be 6-0 but if we keep posting here we could sway their decision again. Come on guys! Let's do this!!

Get the TE position back and a running back that has the ability to be a lead blocker too.
Keep Roberts in the slot or move him out wide occasionally
Move Ellis and Jones around...want to see either of them in a fly sweep.
Get Ellis and Jones open with a rub from Roberts or the TE.( oh wait we don't have a TE.)
Move the QB occasionally to avoid the rush.
Wheel route with Ellis and Jones on the same side.

Stitt is a good coach. Having said that most fans need to figure out his needs. # 1 is a quick thinking QB that can throw quick and well. A progression read getting to the second and even the third are required. None of our QBs are exactly what he needs. These QBs are doing the best they can and would do very well in other types of offenses. I think he would be throwing in Pflug if he were not a true frosh. In any event our third string QB will improve in the two off weeks and lets hope he does not get hurt!

Without a TE to help, the RBs HAVE to block. Nguyen is too small to consistently block. Saw him get crushed a few times by blitzing personnel. Find an RB that can plug the hole and give the receivers enough time to work free and Simis enough time to find them.

Until Stitt realizes the offensive line needs help AND adjusts we will not see such progression. I did like the last TD to Roberts.

What evidence do we have to prove this? In my opinion, he and his guys are in over their heads. They are not prepared for this level of football, and therefore our guys are not prepared. Poor offensive schemes, no compensation for an inexperienced and undersized o-line, poor in game adjustments, stubborn decisions on 4th down, field position, and punt return execution, and inept red-zone play. Remember Gus played during the regression we are seeing, so can't just say "we are on our 3rd string QB. It's deeper than that.

Are we gonna stick to the assertion that a mediocre coach at an elite engineering school will win here?

For me personally, I expect more. We gave him a brand...we pay him for a product. Product is not to standard. He and his staff need to improve.

Exactly and one has to consider whether the NDSU aberration was more of a residue from from the previous season and the regression is due to the coach influencing the play each week. Not saying it is but does make you wonder.
