If I were NDSU...

I would love to go to Fargo if we make it that far. I think it would be a blast and would love to make a weekend of it, but I hold no realistic hope of beating them. Things may have been trending up for us, but lets be honest. We beat a Weber team who had given up and a horribly beat up cat team who apparently had some chemistry issues. We are not in NDSU' s league right now. It is alright, no-one is.

If this game happens. All the pressure will be on NDSU. Griz should play loose and with something to prove. The underdog mentality is not the worst attitude to have. The thing that many other non-grizzly fans have forgotten, is that Montana has been at the top for a long time and this team in particular has taken the attitude that they have a lot to show the rest of the country of why they should be back on top. Frankly, they have been disrespected by many and been thru a lot. I think the players and coaches have done an amazing job this season getting back to playing great winning football. Yes, there has been bumps in the road and it always hasn't been perfect. But if not anything else, this team plays very hard all game long and has learned how to win again. I predict the Griz will beat NDSU on National TV and take back the crown that the Bison have temporarily borrowed.

I think NDSU would be in the top half of most FBS conferences right now, and would win some of them. They're on par with the Wisconsins of the world in my opinion. Three championships in a row would put them in elite company, and four would be unprecedented.

But even the best teams have a bad day every once in awhile. Maybe we can catch them in one if we get past CC/BC.

My mini-scouting report on NDSU:

NDSU has four main weapons: Two 1,000 yard rushers (Ojuri & Crockett) who both average over 6 yards per carry and 2 primary receivers (Vraa & Smith) who both have more catches than Jones or Henderson. They are a very balanced attack, averaging 205 yards per game passing and 237/game rushing...they have run over 100 more plays than their opponents and they own the TOP by almost 10 minutes per game.

They are very disciplined, with the exact same # of penalties (for fewer yards) than the Grizzlies.

Defensively, they give up an average of just over 11 points per GAME, and fewer than 250 ypg of total offense given up. They have garnered 32 sacks, while giving up just 16. Their red zone defense is phenomenal, giving up just 7 TD's and 6 FG's all YEAR. They have given up just SIX 4th quarter points all YEAR.

The one stat that stands out is turnover margin: NDSU is just +1, while the Griz are +16. If our opportunistic defense can come up with 2+ TO's, I think we stand a chance....if not, well it will have been a nice season.

This isn't high school football, and all teams in the playoffs are very good. If the Bison don't bring it every single game through the playoffs, they can get beat any given day just like anyone else. I think this matchup would be great and honestly..i think it may take a program like Montana with the history and clout that our program carries to knock off NDSU. Weve never been a program to just hope to win or stay close like all the teams NDSU has been beating up on. We go into every game expecting to win, that's the only type of attitude that can beat the Bison.

If we make it to that game, NDSU will be a heavy favorite. And how many games did the Griz come into this year as an underdog? Maybe Eastern?

We may not pull it off, but a team with nothing to lose, especially one that has been playing well of late, is a very dangerous team. A puncher's chance, after all, is still a chance.

That's the stat that worries me the most about them. If the Griz don't come out firing on all cylinders they aren't going to be able to pull a win out of their asses late in the game. Bison are way too solid on D for that.

While Bison fans might not be worried about a game with Montana, you can damn well bet their coaching staff is.

Remember that each game is different for so many reasons that it's hard to guess what can happen. With a team like ours that can throw up a lot of points in a hurry you just never know. They should have lost to UNI earlier, and the guys from Kansas should have won the opening game as well. I know they can be beaten as long as we don't show up for the game already beaten. If we can keep it close we have as good a chance as anyone does.

As a Bison fan, that stat worries me. The interesting thing though is that NDSU hasn't really been that careless with the ball (16 turnovers given up). They just haven't been good at creating turnovers (15).

Edit: Also, NDSU is -1 in turnover margin.

UM creates a lot of fumbles...many times, however, it's at the expense of another 3-5-8 yards given up on the play while the players try to strip the ball instead of just tackle the bastard. Your method seems to be working....  :thumb:

Bison fan here. My team lead the FCS in time of possession at 34 minutes per game. For comparison, Montana averages 30 min/game which is 59th.

That defense has been playing lights out averaging 11.5 points a game. Their offense isn't going to be as dynamic as like EWU, PSU or SAC but still have managed to put up 37.1 points a game with 442.6 yards off offense. If the Griz coaching staff can find a way for us to move the ball down the field we have a chance.

With their great D, I wonder what their TOP is. I'm guessing they've had the ball quite a bit more, time wise. (At work or I would look up their TOP stats)

Just excited about the BSC vs. the MVC! Two really great conferences battling it out.
One game at a time, however.
Go Griz, beat Coastal Carolina or Bethune-Cookman!

How many games have the Griz come out swinging on? First half of the Weber game and MSU games were horrid. This staff made adjustments in both games and the Griz got convincing wins. The same lackluster performance against NDSU would be disastrous. This team needs to figure out how to score early and often. The D is doing a good job and they have made steady improvements. Kudos to the secondary in particular. The Griz definitely have a chance against NDSU, but they better get the offensive play calling figured out ASAP. Ground and pound for two quarters will not get it done.

Griz might win, but it'll have to be a 10-7 type game.

Can't disagree with you more, IF we get that far, and IF we win, the score will have to be in the 40s, because they haven't had to do that too much this year.
That's fine and well, if you think the gameplan will be to try and score. I think it will be to try and eat up the clock so the defense won't get worn down. I agree with you on what can beat the bison, I just don't think this staff will try that.

I for one wouldn't have the bracket any other way.
Beat the Bison and the haters shouldn't have much GPI spin left...

It's awesome to be this close to fully resurrecting Griz football after only one "off" year. Speaks volumes to the resiliency of the program.

People might forget it was only a few years ago we were competing in back to back NC's while the Bison were in the midst of a 6 and a 3 win season.

About time for someone to take them off their pedestal.
Who better than the GRIZ?

Bring it on Bison

Yes, the Griz probably CAN beat NDSU. But, both schools have another game to win before that game can even possibly happen.
