If Engstrom Were the President of Florida St...

Would he allow the qb to play?

Would he fire the coach for letting the qb play?

What if the coach made a statement in support of the qb?

Would he allow or encourage the dean to pursue an expedited sexual assault violation under the student code?

no
yes
coach would be fired
yes

And for these reasons, Engstrom would never be president at any major institution.

So does that mean we're stuck with him???

The "Rape Culture" critics are out in force.

Here's what Engstrom did, in the public perception:

"I can keep going: Miami and Connecticut in 2011; Notre Dame and Montana (coach and athletic director may have been involved in the cover-up) in 2010 ... ".

"The cover up?" Well, that's how news "plays out" in the public mind when people like Engstrom do otherwise inexplicable things. People then make stuff up so that it makes sense. And the damage goes on.

We can only hope someone picks him up as a provost, which he is qualified for, but as a president/CEO of anything, he is grossly inadequate and will do nothing but embarrass himself and the institution-wherever that may be. Unfortunately at this time it is UM. If the guy had any self-respect he would look for a provost type position. The guy is a academic, but not too smart. Put pressure on the MSU guided board of regents if you want it changed.

You fire public people without a public explanation and the public will take it as an opportunity to fill in the blank with whatever allegation that suits their purpose and always the most salacious or destructive narrative will get the headlines. Maybe they were fired because they had the balls to stand up to a knee jerk reaction but no one will ever suggest that to the press and if they did no one would ever believe it anyway because dirt is what sells. RE screwed the U both through his over-reaction and his lack of explanation.

Nothing really that RE could say truthfully.

"I fired Robin Pflugrad because he stood up for a young man caught in a tough position, a young man that he knew well and sincerely believed in. I, as President of the University of Montana, thought that the young man should have been thrown under a bus. If it is up to me, I will gladly throw all of them under any bus I can find, and if a settlement agreement comes through from DOJ throwing all of the students and faculty under said bus, I will gladly sign it, just so my policy is clear."

"I fired Jim O'Day because he stood up for a coach he knew well and sincerely believed in."

"We don't need, nor are we going to reward, any expression of personal integrity here at the University of Montana. I intend to set an example for students here at the University. I expect these policies to dramatically increase enrollment."

Doesn't all this make what Coach Delaney and the GRIZ have done all the more remarkable. "When things look darkest and it don't look like you are gonna make it, then you get mean...I mean plum mad dog mean, cuz if you give up or lose your head, you neither live nor win..that's just the way it is. " Clint in Outlaw Jose Wales.

Engstrom didn't and couldn't even look O'Day and Pflugrad in the eye when he fired them. Looked down at his desk the whole time. Looked at them when they walked into his office, and never looked at them again. What a guy.

It's ironic that the football team's success this season is helping bail out Engstrom from the messes he created--part of which almost wrecked the football team.

True

.....and Florio wrote it......and Devlin an Co let her print it. Grrrrrr......, don't get me started. Let's talk about going for it on 4th down or something.

We owe this season to JJ and the players who stood by him United. JJ has done more than just win football games in my mind, he has shown everyone that he is a bigger man than the so-called President of my University. JJ is owed so much for the rush to judgment that overcame him and two men who knew truth sacrificed their careers for what was right. The so-called President is to blame for scar that was an innocent man, and I for one will never heal from it. I did heal some when I watched JJ walk off that field in Bozo victorious, free and vindicated. I am not sure I would have been so brave to have done all that he has done. The so-called President is too blame for our lack of enrollment and others contributed to the ordeal by their refusal to really listen to what happened to JJ. Sport is sport. Life is life. If anything, MD has brought a sense of perspective and humility.

The so-called President's choices would not depend on his location. He would be so over his head in Florida it is unimaginable.

This is a very nice post. If JJ, O'Day and Pflu and families saw it, I'm sure they would appreciate it very much.

He still has Pflu's team, so much success has to go to the guy whom brought in most of the players in. And also don't forget Pflu had already or was about to install many of the progressive programs to help turn the players into players, as well as good students and people contributing to the community. MD inherited a great situation except of course for the QB situation last year.

He'd fire the coach and AD, toss Winston off the team, do what he could to control the press, fix a jury, change to name from Semioles to something PC, and drop athletics from 1-A to Division 2.
