I think you could offer Idaho an open enrollment period. Join now and all sports will be accepted free of charge. Join later and football comes with a $1.5 million entrance fee and a $2.5 million exit fee should the Vandals move on in the next 10 years.
That's not a bad idea. You got my vote.

The $1.5 million to get in the Big Sky at a later date, should make flirting with FBS independence a wash. So Idaho gets $1.5 million for body bag games in 2013, but the Big Sigh gets the money, a "waiting fee" if you will. The early exit fee should compensate the Big Sigh for taking on the mess that is Idaho athletics. That seems pretty reasonable. It's a better deal than any other DI conference is offering Idaho.
I might also suggest that Idaho not be eligible for the conference championship until their scholarships are fully drawn down.

Good post, agree 100%.

Just staying fbs for a couple bucks. Might as well change their name to the Idaho Prostitutes.

I think that is more BSU, than Idaho. I have loved rooting for Boise State, and proud of their accomplishments. Got to admit, I lost some respect for them for pimping themselves out to the Big East. What a fricken joke, BCS football has become. I am disappointed Boise State worked to get to the MWC, then shortly thereafter, slapped the conference in the face.

No Offense to Boise State, but the truly pimped themselves to whoever would give them the money. Like prostitute, no loyalty.

AS for Idaho, I welcome them back. It is nice to have another rival. Even nicer, the believe of other rivals at the same level as the GRIZ. I am guessing within 5 years. :thumb:

OK, I think these reporters need to challenge Spear on his FBS math. He's saying FBS independence makes sense based on a $1.5 million advantage in game payouts. But Idaho will also have the cost of 23 more football scholarships and a couple dozen title IX scholarships.
His program does not pay for itself. So he's basically asking Idaho's education board to keep a leaky boat afloat.
Does the board have the power to force a move to FCS? If it does, it should.

I'd be curious to know what numbers he's using for the kind of payouts that would be required to get an FBS program to travel to Moscow. Additionally, I wonder what they project for annual ticket revenues, as I can't imagine playing as an independent will generate a ton of excitement around Moscow - not that there was much to begin with.

Extremely logical post sir,

Agree in the sense that the big boy /little boy distinction will be settled sooner than we think, we won't be in the mix nor will the Vandals, they are smart to rethink here.

Part of me wants Idaho back in football cause it would give the sky 14 teams, ups the competetiveness of the conference and they are a geographic fit. However the other part of me (and the option Im leaning to thanks to Idaho's fans) wants Idaho football to flounder then die, we dont need thier a#$ hurt "we are better than you though we havent proved that ever attitude" around here.

Big Sky, or Death to Idaho football

Im like Two-Face, Im of two minds about this matter

Sadly, Idaho has become what so many Big Sigh schools already are--a no so successful second tier school living in the shadow of a true FBS program.

You're suggesting Fullerton has a pair. That, of course, is not the case, as we have found out so many times. He is begging Idaho to bail him out of his Fullerton Folly 13 f*ckup.
