Idaho State game and Griz Seating

They actually try to spread the Griz fans out so they are not quite as loud.

Wrong. Visiting fans get the SE corner. Only crowded for the Griz games, though. Weber has second place, only two hours away, and WHEN they have a decent team.

That is a hell hole. How do they ever recruit kids to play there. I have been in 100s of stadiums and that is the worst of all of them.

Ya don't suppose theres a connection, recruiting ability vs facility, do ya?
The last time I attended a game in Pocatello was in 2001 and they had the Griz fans spread all over. It wasn't just in one corner. We took the GAA bus. Griz played a bad game, but somehow still won 32-28. I hated the atmosphere and decided to never go back. The place just sucks in every way.

Hey 01, I travel to Pokey once or twice a year for business and will be there for the game, but I've never found a halfway decent bar or restaurant in that town. Any suggestions??

buddy's near the university isn't too bad a place, and they have a garlic salad dressing that is worth ordering. also, i think the 'original' press box is still there, out yellowstone ave. portneuf valley brewing is a decent place to go, and the sandpiper is also ok, but as far as food/bars go, "ok" is about the best you'll do in poky.

Typically the Griz have seated themselves in the SEish corner of the stadium (L/M/N). Higher up is probably preferable, just because of the angle. Bring Shin guards, because their 1965 plastic seats are brutal.

Sandpiper is wonderful place to eat (up the hill from the Red Lion), as for sports bars there are a few on Yellowstone downtown that aren't bad. The Pressbox is okay. There are some great places to eat breakfast in town, but nightlife is nearly non-existent in Poky. Honestly, you all might be better creating a place to go at like the Red Lion than trying to create something downtown. Just my experience. Living in the temperance/prohibition belt has colored my opinion on availability of nightlife.

In years past the tailgate has been in the grassy area north of holt arena, but the parking spots in that region are where most Griz and Poky fans (the few that do) tailgate.

I have purchased the tickets through Holt in years past and not through the UofM. They haven't changed the seating alotment, but it is always a smart idea to contact the UofM ticket office to double check.

Anyway, probably should be a great contingent of Griz fans, which is nice. I would have said last year tickets might have been difficult, but as poopy as ISU has been so far, might be standard fare in Holt.

In 2009 they had a big dude playing gestapo who tried to herd anyone wearing Griz gear down into that corner off the endzone, irrespective of where their seats were assigned. He kicked some dudes out who objected. So in 2011 I had my Pokey niece buy the tix on the ISU side and we were not bothered. Will do that again; the corner is awful if you want to watch the game.

There is always a very obvious GSA tailgate in the parking area on the freeway side.

We usually do the Sandpiper and run into a lot of Griz fans there.

Why put up with that BS? The Pocatello Police Department has at least two officers stationed at the endzones of the seating areas. Show your tickets to them, and take your seats. Somebody needs to be put in their place. ISU wouldn't put up with that shit. Kicked out??? Gutless sheep. Cocks*ucker needs some time in the Bannock County Jail. He sure as hell wouldn't be working for ISU again.

Always the southeast corner, but ISU fans are pretty fickle
fickle. If shit gets ugly, there will be plenty of seats elsewhere.

Good lord if you want to have a good tailgate get together with some friends and have one. Do not expect the GSA to have anything. the last 4 times I went to ISU and stopped at the GSA tailgate I was embarrassed by the poor showing of our GSA Tailgate. With the following of the Griz I thought GSA would want the to show the other fans how to do it right.
We found that with a good attitude you can walk around and have a good time tailgating with ISU fans too.

Not our experience; it has been typical of a road game with plenty of Griz fans to encounter. Possibly you're disgruntled because they sell, not give-away....

Pocatello just gives out a stale vibe and as does ISU/Holt arena. I have been to three or four games in Poky since I moved to southern Idaho in 2006 and the games have been very well attended. Their tailgate is virtually non-existent but I think that has more to do with the overarching religious influences there than anything. Apparently, as strange as it might be, but you don't need alcohol to enjoy football games. Weber is a stranger experience IMHO.

But yes you are right, if you BYOB or at a minimum pay for the GSA tailgate, the place isn't as stodgy as you would think. Moreover, import your barley soda, because the selection in Poky isn't that great. Though Snake River brewery does things right.

The ISU fans were great the last game there and provided great hospitality in their tailgate area. Pretty good people, too bad there weren't more.

I agree with the above comments. The last time we were in Pokey for a game, there were far more Griz fans tailgating than there were ISU folks, and all were welcoming. Holt Arena? That's something else! We've always been stuck in the corner too.
And the comment re Weber being even stranger -- you can't even get COFFEE there, much less alcohol. Makes for a long, cold game.

At least they now allow women to attend the games in Ogden.

I will be bringing 3 young gals with me. All of them are tougher than me. All are into that MMA crap so I don't expect to get pushed around but who knows? I swore I'd never go back to Holt in yokie polkie but I will be at the game.

Perhaps I should have asked Rhonda Rousy to go? Better yet how about mean old Growler? He'd stink em all out cause he is packin. Second thought I'll go with my original bunch.
