The turning point from a Griz rout was the 2 unsuccessful QB sneaks on 3rd and 4th and one. If Gus fakes the sneak and throws to a tight end releasing to the flat or down the seam it's an uncontested TD and the rout so many here want is on. IMHO

Or, if the refs spotted the ball where the ball was on the 4th down play, UM would have easily had a first down. Horrible spot. The refs were pretty bad. The refs last Saturday were very good.

The Cats played about where they were picked in pre season. Some bright spots but a lot of improvement needed. Like St Francis, Bryant is a very good team led by seniors on offense and defense. Smart team and well coached. Going to be a tough season for the Cats but will look for improvement each week.

I would guess that in your state of exuberance that your mouth will override your common sense?

1st. Congratulations ... hard fought victory ... I learned a few more things tonight. Your defense is doing better than I thought it would. Defense was much better than last week.

2nd. Your offense is light years behind EWU ... lots of luck in conference play. Compare your passing stats against EWU ....holy crap.!

3rd. UNI had an offense that is really struggling .. in the 4th quarter Bailey had a completion rate of 38% ... holy crap!

4th. I don't like all the bad calls by refs against all teams and all the "reviews", that was the longest 1st half I have ever had to sit through in our game! Going to be a long year ... yeow!

Summary: you barely won by 1 score. We barely won in OT. Be thankful for the win, we can both hope our teams continue to improve.

I have mentioned numerous time about the OL play, maybe not in this thread, but to preface what I did say in this thread, Gus has limitations which have a large impact on the offense independent of how the OL plays. Why do you think the Griz offense ignores the middle of the field in the passing game?

The Griz need a West High quarterback. Its just the way it is. Natural way that things are supposed to be.

First things first, we just beat one of the best 2 or 3 teams we will face in our schedule, arguably the best. Huge win is a very appropriate statement. Couple observations:

• Secondary is greatly improved from last year. Corners played their receivers one on one and had some great pass break ups.
  
  Josh Buss is playing at a very high level. Was constantly disruptive and is showing to be a great all-around LB. Other LBs played very well too.
  
  The entire front 7 benefits from Caleb Kidder. UNI was constantly trying to double team him. Despite that, he was still getting good pressure and was constantly in the backfield. Stats won't tell the entire story on him.
  
  Very impressed with Semore so far.
  
  Special Teams are hugely improved from last year in all phases. Long field goals. Return for a TD. Very good kick and punt coverage. Good punts and kickoffs.
  
  Offensive line had a big test today and played relatively well. They didn't dominate by any means and had a few struggles getting push and allowed the pocket to collapse, but they kept at it and didn't allow any catastrophes. We won't see a front 7 as talented as UNI's all year. I feel better about our OL.
  
  No turnovers.
  
  The receivers struggled to get open and get separation. Also too many dropped balls. Those are killers in this type of offense. Some of them looked lost at times. However, it is a young unit who should get better over the course of the year.
  
  Gus didn't have the best game, but showed poise and made smart decisions. Didn't force anything. Has a lot of work to do with the receivers. Seem that they aren't on the same page all of the time.
  
  The play calling was conservative and didn't take many risks. I think Havre pointed out that was Stitt's game plan, which makes sense. Will be interesting to see how this offense does against some of the Big Sky defenses, which aren't nearly as talented as UNI's.
