I didn't get a score cause I was at the Griz smackdown but Dillon rallied to beat Butte Central by 1 I hear. BC did pretty good for a school with under 200 kids playing at the Class A level.

That is the lamest excuse I've heard yet! Butte Central is not an ordinary 200 enrolment school! First, they are a private school in a city of 30,000 people.(just look at Billings central) its not always about quantity.
Second, Butte central has always been one of the top teams in the state witch tells me they are not a fluke but that they know how to recruit some of the better kids in butte.

Give the kids credit but saying that they should get more credit because of a small enrollment that is just being silly. I will take a private school with 200 hundred enrollment in a town of 30,000 to pick from over a Belgrade with 1,000 enrolment.

Have to disagree Zeezrom. I think Butte Central's team deserves credit for what they did this year. Their QB, Peoples, was a good athlete and leader, their RB, Harrington, was a tough running kid, and they had a very solid defense. But Butte Central darn near earned a state championship with an extremely small student enrollment. It helps they're in a town of 30,000 but that certainly wouldn't guarantee their success.

I don't know what Butte Central does as far as "recruiting" but I know (contrary to popular opinion) it has not happened with Billings Central. It is a fact their 300 students come from all over the Billings area. Yet these are not cherry picked athletes pulled into joining a team.

For example, the eight Billings Central seniors on this year's football team had been class mates since 1st grade. So unless Billings Central is sizing up prospects at age 6 it is hard to say they were "recruited". One advantage they may have is they played football together since 7th grade. Prior to that they would have been on various Billings Little Guy teams. Again, don't know what happens in Butte but doubt their success was due to recruitment. :twocents:

Sorry Z but you are full of it. BC is no Missoula Loyola that stocks up on the huge population base. Butte high doesn't have a big AA population either. My kid is a freshman at Butte and his cohorts at BC probably don't have enough boys to make up an 11 man team.

The scheduling of these HS state championship during Griz-Cat is absolutely retarded.
They should have played the AA and A games in WaGriz starting in the morning. A football cornucopia!!

I would like to see the local kids from BC give Dillon another beat down but not gonna miss the Brawl. Sucks.

I for one will be at my first Griz Cat game this weekend, but you my friend must not be to educated on class A football if you think BC is going to lay a beat down on anyone especially the Beavers. If you paid any attention to the top four teams in the state you would know that the only beat down amongst thoughs teams this year was the one the Beavers laid on the then #1 seed Belgrade two weeks ago in Belgrade. I for one am glad to see BC in it, I have a lot of respect for them and their program. This should be one of the best Chippers in the recent past. I do wish I could be there and watch the southwestern A top two duke it out. my prediction 26-24 Beavers but it could easily go the other way. It should be a great game!! GO GRIZ

Let me recap my stance on Butte central!!
I do not think Butte Central needs sympathy because of their enrollment numbers call me crazy.. Here is why..
They show 38 kids on their 2014 roster, four more than the 2014 state champs Dillon who had 34 and one less than the 2014 anaconda copperheads who are dropping to B with 39 on their roster Hamilton has 34 and Frenchtown shows a whopping 24.
One more thing..
Butte Central is not a new comer to the post season in class A sports and it definitely wont be their last time playing for a championship.
I will say it again, I will take quality over quantity any day and that my good friends is what teams like Butte Central and Dillon have.

Dramatic comeback: Beavers rally 29-28 for state football title

When people look back at the greatest games in Montana high school football history, this is one that will always stand out.

If you were unable to watch the game, whether online or in person, I’m sorry.

But if you were fortunate enough to be in Alumni Coliseum on a chilly, breezy Saturday in late November, you will likely never forget the game you watched.

The game featured more momentum and emotional swings than most people can deal with, and at the end of it all the Dillon Beavers rallied from a 14-point deficit, capped off by one of the gutsiest two-point conversion tries you will ever see to claim their third Class A state championship in four years, 29-28, over the Butte Central Maroons.

What the article doesn't mention, and it's a biggie, is when Dillon scored their last touchdown deep into the 4th qtr, they lined up to kick the extra point to try and tie the game at 28 all. However Central blocked the PAT, but was flagged for off sides. Dillon, being closer to the line of scrimmage, decided to go for a go ahead 2-pt conversion. The QB rolled out to the right, was being tackled at the legs when he lofted what look like a short hail mary pass over a leaping Central defenders outstretched hand and fell into a leaping Dillon WRs hands in the back of the endzone. Both tried to high point the ball. But the Central defender was shallower, and the Dillon player made a phenominal catch (Nate Simkins, a JR). Dillon went up 29-28, with around 2 plus min to play.

Central got a great return on the kick. Then completed a nice mid-range pass over the middle to the Dillon 35 or so. Central only needed a field goal, has a good kicker, and had plenty of time to do so or even score a TD. But on that pass completion I mentioned, a Dillon defender made a tremendous play and punched the ball loose from the Central receiver, and Dillon recovered it, essentially ending the game.

On Dillons loss to BC in Oct:

"It motivated us a lot, because right after that game every coach said we are going to go up to Butte and play in the state championship."

-- Dillon DE Brady Richardson (2 days before state championship)

Dillon coach, on the field. post game comments:

"Well, (shaking his head sideways), unbelievable. I just, you know (shaking his head sideways). I'm going to kick back here in a minute and reflect, but. (shaking his head sideways) I can't believe it, I'm still kind of in awe. Way in awe. (Shaking his head up and down with a humble, happy smile).

Dillon head coach Rick Nordahl -

"Through 3 quarters they got the better of us, but then boy we turned it on in that 4th quarter and our kids made some plays. We got some tempo going in our direction, and defensively and offensively we set the tone, and we didn't take our foot off the gas pedal."

When asked about going for 2 (the lead), the head coach replied:

"I may have to go to Vegas."
==========================================================================

That was a big-time call.

My family stayed to watch the BC-Dillon game. I went to the Brawl. I still say it was a bonehead move to schedule HS championships on Griz-Cat day. Maybe someday MHSA will figure that out and play the Sat games in the morning at the site of the brawl, esp now that both stadiums have lights for late games.
