How would it have been that much different between the 3?

Just going off what i heard which could have some inaccuracies (please advise if so):

1. All three would have kept Gregorak as d coordinator and at least dline coach Legi
2. Justin Green was staying with RB's (recruiting coordinator) and Germer was coming back with oline as well with all - huge deal for griz by the way.
3. Rosenbach would have been back as O coordinator for Hauck and Pease.
*Wish I could have seen all three projected staffs on paper, but that is all I had.

So Pease and Hauck would have ran more of a pro set with Rosey and Stitt runs his uptempo combo of like Oregon/Auburn offense.

Defense would have been same

Special teams could be the biggest difference between all three? This was Haucks strength but i haven't seen where Stitts special teams struggled.... don't know with Pease.

Hauck and Pease are solid recruiters at this level and Stitt has no experience but kept the right guys to help transition who have a proven recruiting track record. You either have it or don't to sell yourself, staff, program, facilities, and university...that will play out soon.

Personality. We know Bobby and Brent weren't afraid to get after players, etc and show some fire and toughness. I don't think Stitt is a push over in this department, just might go about it differently as his passion is evident to all around him I hear

Discipline. I think all 3 would discipline players when needed either on the field, off it getting in trouble, or in the classroom.

I was really worried about Stitt over the last few weeks, but when I look at this... he is surrounded with stability/experience/familiarity (former Griz players and experienced coaches on staff at this level serving under various head guys) of players/staff and I think Kent knew he wanted that in place with an "outsider" coaching hire. Haslem has been saying he wanted a offensive mind as a head coach.... at this level and what Griz pay, it is hard to get the combo of a head guy and o coordinator that both have the ability to out coach an opposing d staff consistently.

Kent knows his job and ability for a bigger D1 program AD opportunity is riding on this and that is why he was more involved in the assistants than most of the time I believe.

What am I missing?

I would have been fine with any of the 3 candidates. I was never a huge fan of Rosie as OC when he was here before. I don't think he had much success at UNLV either. I think he was OC at WSU and was fired there too, but not positive. If it was Pease, and he was directing the offense, I think that would have been a good situation.

Yes, good summary. Tim Hauck would have returned with Bobby. Good point on special teams. Recruiting is a question mark for me. While Stitt's exciting offense may attract the interest of talented receivers and qb's (which is great), can Stitt, with help from his staff, immediately recruit well in the UM territory or expanded territory? Also, I don't think any of the retained guys have the strong ties in Montana high school coaching circles, but don't know that for sure. If Stitt could find a way to beat NDSU, that would relieve alot of pressure for him and Haslam. Following up on your "outsider" comment, my impression is that Engstrom and perhaps Haslam preferred a coach without strong ties to UM, so that they wouldn't already have a power base of support when they started. While Stitt is a higher risk, he seems to have many things going for him and very good potential.

I don't understand why so many people were wanting Pease but at the same time saying they didn't want Hauck because he sucked the last couple years at UNLV...didn't Pease also suck at his last few jobs???? OC for Florida..Offense sucked and got canned, WRs coach at Washington, seams like a backwards career move to me, must be a reason....meanwhile while Bobby and Pease are moving lateral or backwards in their careers...Stitt is gaining huge momentum and national attention from big time coaches and schools....you wanna catch coaches on their upward climbs!

I agree but Stitt has by far the highest ceiling out of all these guys!!!! I love this guys vision and mindset of the game of football, nobody sees the game like this guy, and hes not scared to get creative...can you imagine if he comes out and hangs 50 on NDSU next years???? Gotta spend money to make money brotha!

I agree that Stitt has lots of potential, but don't agree with your first statement. I think Hauck would have UM back on top very quickly. Zero learning curve with him or the coaches he would have had. Huge desire to prove that he could do it again. If Stitt lays 50 on NDSU, then everyone will be duly impressed.
