How to get back to winning the in-state recruiting war

There's the first thing I may have EVER agreed on with Monte/Growler/AZ/Wolfman....THIS BOARD DOES NOT REPRESENT the feelings of ALL of Griz Nation!! He is so soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo right. Because, whether Monte realizes it or not, this board is way more dominated by negativity and arm chair QB's who know more than the guys who are paid by the U, than by so-called sugarcoacters. So he's totally right, on a post to post basis, I don't think this board is an accurate refelction of the feelings of Griz Nation.

Griz Nation is MOSTLY composed of unconditional, diehard, Griz football fans, who love the PROGRAM EVERY YEAR NO MATTER WHAT. Not a specific coach, not a specific team, not a specific record. THE MAJORITY of Griz Nation LOVES Montana Grizzly football. And that's why, year after year, they sell out Wash-Griz, that's why, year after year the money from merchandising rises, that's why year after year, the fan base grows. Are there Egrizzers that fit that mold? Sure as heck are. I would consider myself one of em. Doesn't mean my mood towards Griz football is rose-colored 365 days a year. I do question things, I do have opinions and I voice them, I do argue with the way things are done. I'm not blindly following the Griz. But, I do LOVE and WILL follow the Griz at 0-11 or 15-0, and that will never change, and I choose to believe that LOVE is how the MAJORITY OF Griz Nation feels. That LOVE OF GRIZ FOOTBALL, is the foundation that this fan base, and actually any fan base is built on. It has nothing to do with rose-colored glasses or sugar-coating. IT'S CALLED BEING A FAN. It's not about bad fan vs good fan, it's about JUST BEING A FAN.

I'm sorry Monte, but if the Majority of Griz Nation felt the way you do, or the way your 10-20 friends feel, we wouldn't have the fan base that we do. It just would not be possible for that many people to hate Montana, but still have the fan base that we have, and I'm sorry, but that fact is not debatable. When I see Big Sky Conference football games start to fall short of 20,000 attendance at Wash-Griz, not 22,000, not 24,000 even, but 20,000, when I see season ticket sales dip below 15,000 for a season, when it's announced that the Champions Center is being scrapped because lack of financial support, when the Griz have to go back to Russell Athletic Uniforms instead of Nike, when the school has to plant grass because they can't afford the next field turf update, then, maybe then, I will believe that Griz Nation feels the way about Montana that you and your 10-20 friends do. I'm sorry, but 10-20 guys does NOT GRIZ NATION Make. No matter how much those 10-20 donate, no matter how many NFL scouts you know, and no matter how many statues you've given to UM. I'm sorry, but Griz Nation is much bigger than that.

What a stupid post. I am as a big a Griz fan as anybody on here. Just because I don't kiss the coaches asses, and suck up to the popular posters on here who think they know jack sh*t about the game of football, I am not representative of Griz nation? You're so full of sh*t trying to equate full stadiums to everyone just keeping their mouth shut as our program sinks into mediocrity. Keep patting yourself on the back, cause it is idiots like you who accept mediocrity, and will continue to accept the downward spiral that this program has incurred under Delaney the past three years.

And don't to tell me that there are not THOUSANDS of Griz fans who feel the same way I do.

You won't read anything like this from your lying super-star "analysis king"... you know, the guy who uses the internet and opposing team's media guides to impress all of you, with meaningless graphs, and clueless statements.

But, if Montana is going to return to dominating the in-state recruiting war with the Cats, these things should be instituted by our new staff:

1) The head coach should have regular phone conversations with each of the 13 AA head coaches, and their key assistants.
2) All "A" high school head coaches should be phoned regularly by Griz assistant coaches, who are assigned high school's throughout the state.
3) Head coaches from the "AA', and "A" level (and some key "B' level schools) should be given two free tickets to any Griz game they desire.
4) Re-instate summer camps in a manner which makes these high school coaches want to attend in Missoula, rather than in Bozeman.
5) Hire as many head high school coaches as possible for summer camps.
6) Institute Don Read's "tour of Montana towns" to have a physical presence throughout the state, including Eastern Montana, which we are neglecting currently.

There are many more things, but I just wanted to give you some beef.

This entire post is ridiculous. First, it asserts that the Griz are somehow losing in-state recruits. Wrong. Second, the list of things the program should be doing are already largely being done. Stupid, stupid, stupid. End thread/End Monte.

You are totally and completely wrong on both of your assertions. NO! We have lost the in-state recruiting war the past three years. And, we are NOT doing any of the things I listed. The Cats in-state recruiting model is way ahead of ours. Our recruiting coordinator is from Oregon. None of our key assistants are from Montana. Delaney is old and tired and recruiting passed him by long ago. As bad as some of you don't want to face it, we have slipped mightily with in-state recruiting since Hauck and Paulsen left.

hey ass-hat, take a look at Payton's thread on the recruits and then try to come back here and say that recruiting has passed Delaney a long time ago. That list of recruits is as impressive as we've ever seen and its still regular season.

You have been asked this over and over and over again, but please show us the list of in state recruits the cats have beat us on in the last three years.

We'll be waiting, dillhole.

As my father used to say, "don't hold your hand on your ass waiting, because it'll grow there."

That's quite a list of obvious things that are probably already being done. Of course, not any of them would tip the balance to better in-state recruiting. Getting the lost scholarships back would have a much bigger impact on in-state recruiting.

She tries SOOOOOO hard to be civil.............but it is only time before the other shoe drops..........tick tock, tick tock (The tick tock was not a PlayerRep bomb threat noise)

I posted it another post, but as of last week's depth charts, the number of Montana-born players is DEAD EVEN AT 15.

And yes, you're right, the Griz wanted Gunnar Brekke. OBVIOUSLY, since he was offered a full scholarship and he initially accepted that scholarship and was a Griz verbal commit for nearly a YEAR! So yea, who in god's name could say they didn't want him?????????? But for every Cat commit the Griz wanted, the door certainly swings both ways. Brady Gustafson, Josh Horner and Tucker Scheye are THREE Griz players that I can name off the top of my head that MSU offered the EXACT SAME ASSISTANCE that Montana offered, and they CHOSE THE GRIZZLIES.

In my opinion, and I think it's safe to say I've been following it for a long time, NOTHING in the in-state recruiting battle has really changed that much. Griz get some, Cats get some, some years there are a lot of really good in-state recruits, some years, not so much. And ANY Montana fan that really believes the "We used to get ALL the in-state kids, and now we don't" mantra is wrong. I don't care how many Cali boys Kramer used to bring in, or how many Texas boys Ash brings in, MSU has ALWAYS had good Montana players too, and many of those kids CHOSE to be Bobcats over offers from the Griz. Like I said, the door has ALWAYS swung both ways.

Don't mention that topic around Growler man... That might take the discussion into a very uncomfortable area for him. I'm sure someone will bring it up but I think he's been picked on enough about it. I shake my fist in disgust at the people around here who try to pull that irritating subject out of the depths every time he's outed on a new screen name.

Sure he dug himself a deep hole with his antics that were well published here, but is it really fair to make him try to scratch, claw and tug his way out just to be accepted on here again? Is his reputation so foul & tainted that we are going to always think he's nothing more than a gaping asshole? I tell ya...the whole thing stinks!

How's the trailer park in Potomac?

Well played!!

The ol' double-wide is doing great! I'm still waiting on Growler's son to show up and kick my ass though. It's been a long wait...

Don't necessarily agree. I remember when Kramer first started there were some kids accepting a partial scholarship to um over a full ride from msu. Because of that Kramer tried the pr battle of saying he'd never offer a partial scholarship, as that was a slap in the face to some really good montana players. In reality, he stopped offering partial because he'd lose all of those battles to um.

On a personal note, back in the early 2000s, i traveled across the state, and i would rarely ever see msu license plates or people wearing msu apparel.

Now, im not suggesting msu is dominating the instate recruiting battles, but we are now mostly even. Some years we win more in state battles, some years we lose more. That's a huge improvement from 10-15 years ago.
