There never was a "plan." There were a series of poorly thought-out, ad hoc reactions to negative circumstances, mostly created by Engstrom himself. Enrollment declines are increasing, not decreasing. Budget cuts have been brutal. More are on the way. UM has, according to the Missoula Independent, now suffered the largest enrollment losses of any major public university in the nation. It is an historic failure. Now, the one bright spot, the football program, is stumbling badly.buckingthesun said:This is not intended to be an indictment of Engstrom. To the contrary, it was a collaborative leadership decision that was made in the long-range best interest of the University. The plan appears to be working.
It's part of the larger picture and both symptomatic of and consistent with the quality of decision-making at the University of Montana the past six years.
