You think any of these broadcasting companies like ROOT even look at the Big Sky without the Montana fan bases??? If you do your out of your mind.
EWU has been better than the Griz for the past few years on the field yes.....but theres much more to an athletic department than that.
The fact is without Montana and yes Montana State the Big Sky does not exist in 2017.
Yeah I don't think so. While the Big Sky wouldn't be looked at the same anymore it wouldn't collapse if UM and MSU left. It would still be an 11 team conference with a few healthy football programs. It wouldn't be the same conference but it would survive just the same.
Ya the healthy football programs would be jumping ship real fast...what do you have left without the montanas and any media coverage what so ever.....
It sure wasnt a couple hundred people in Utah screaming for better coverage of their conference...it was the Montana markets and their large alumnus population in the Pacific Northwest.
You can tell me if the Montana's left Weber, whos athletic program is one of the stronger ones in the conference isnt looking to bail to the Southland or MVFC.
There would be no where to bail to, the teams in the conference would have to stay or drop.
Let me ask you this, how did the Big Sky survive before Root came along? I don't remember dozens of tv networks clamoring over each other to show our games before Root came along.
Actually I can, If Montana and MSU left Weber would stay (unless and only unless they were also given a invite to move up. Not likely). Weber would then become one of the premier programs and an anchor of the conference. I don't see many Southern teams bailing their conference after App State and Georgia Southern left. It would be no different for the Big Sky.
Like I said, just like the Southern Conference it wouldn't be looked at the same way but it would (like the Southern Conference) Survive just the same.
I wont lie, I personally would miss the Griz and Bobcats if they left, they are two of three schools we have the most history with. And it would be a shame to see them go. But their departure would not end the Big Sky.
I think the biggest difference is the Geography, the Big Sky is the only FCS conference in the west. That helped the other conferences do just fine when App and GAS left.
