How do we shut down Chambers/Mellott?

Even though the base defensive is the same, schematically the Griz defense is much different and more complex. With Tim and Ronnie having so much NFL experience, they have been able to attack teams differently than blitzing 8 dudes every play like we became accustomed to. Where the 3-3-5 has been exposed so much in the past is right up the seam. This was not only the case in the pass game but also the run, last year in the litter box is exhibit A. This problem seems to have been rectified in a big way. Not saying you can completely contain that offense as they attack you in so many different ways, but the physicality being played with, combined with some schematic improvements, we have seen, I think this Griz team could cause some problems for the cat offense.

what this dude said, for the most part.

i'm not sure that it's more complex or just more assignment sound, but it seems to be less effective at sacks and more effective defending the run. which is fine with me. it seems much more well-rounded this year. just seems to be fewer breakdowns against the run, especially on the perimeter. i am still worried about the cats running offense. they're real good. we shall know for sure on saturday.

You know what we've almost NEVER seen this year? Corner or safety blitzes. At least not that I can recall...this D depends on the front 6 doing their part, leaving the back 5 to cover the receivers and not give up a shit ton of big gainers. "Assignment sound" is a good way to put it.

I think the biggest improvement over the course of the season on defense has been playing more smart. We were over-pursuing like crazy at the beginning of the year and since NAU we have pulled back and are playing the LOS. Our guys have stayed home more and are covering the screens, little out routes, and over the middles better than in previous years. PSU and Sac is a great example. PSU tried those screen plays and the Griz D just blew them up. Sac tried to stretch the edge and our corners and LBs were containing quite well. I have also noticed that our D Line is getting off the blocks faster and being more aggressive side to side which has seemed sluggish in past years. I think our D will match up better than last years game. If Idaho can contain their offense, so can we.

Now, how will the Refs let this game play out? They should know the importance of the game and its gonna be hot from the fist kick off. Will they let our boys play, or will all hell break loose before they can contain it? Do we see some ejections? Targeting? It's all possible with this game and knowing BSC Refs.

This game is gonna be a war of attrition. Everything is fair game.
Go Griz!

I think there’s always a way to shut them down. Do I think the gris can do it? Nope. Pull out and pray. Your parents can explain if needed.

I'm going to go a different route than some. Don't worry too much about slow drives, just get a lead. Then, when the Cats are on the field, light them up. Mellott is an absolute class act, and a credit to the state of Montana. He is also soft, and I know for a fact he doesn't like getting hit. He is over it, we just have to push him over the edge. Don't be dirty, but make sure that if he carries the ball he goes to the ground hard. Mellot will break just like McKay did. That's my prediction.

Great take but Tommy will embarass us if given the chance. With McDowell coming from TX and Cent. AK, I sure hope he doesn't get hit in the cold or he will be McKay 2.0, not Tommy.

What did Idaho do against the scats?
Replicate that!

No way in hell our offense can control the ball like ID did. Could be a long day.

If you had asked me on the Saturday evening after the NAU game, I’d have told you that the wouldn’t win seven games in total. Six wins later, here we are. Being productive on every drive on Saturday is the key to the game. Last season they left the defense on the field for forty minutes. This season they have two healthy QBs going in. If the offense holds up their end of the bargain, the defense will be better than what Idaho managed in their win and who knows - the long day might just occur for the team on the west sidelines.

Go back and read his posts, he's clearly a cat fan.

You do your best to crash the edges, put your corners on an island (as you've done successfully all year, they're very good) and make our guys beat you throwing. Easy to say, hard to do, this will be the best o-line you've faced and it's not close. OTOH, this is the best defense we've seen since week 2. I'm pumped. Put the ball down and let's find out, strength on strength. 2 great outfits.

I think the answer is pretty obvious. DUI check point on Westbound I-90 somewhere about Clinton. Probably lose at least one coordinator or running back coach at that point. Then who would drive the bus after the switcharoo? If they do make it to the game then you set up bottle service on the bubs sideline. They’ll start to get thirsty about halftime and it’s smooth sailing from there.

You mean, the Idaho team the GRIZ beat and the bubs lost to?

Or maybe we should compare sac scores. Frankly it’s just a damn good thing the bubs got ewoo instead of Davis or they’d be limping in with a 3rd loss

I sincerely hope your team spends all week going over what NAU did in that game to try and use it to beat us.

The part that raises it's head and determines the outcome will be our offense vs your defense.

Meh. Entire GRIZ team had a respiratory virus playing at 7200 feet. Surprised they had enough energy to get off the bus.

So about rhat Idaho and sac game..... Bet you're happy you didn't have to go to Davis.
