My understanding is that MLB wants to separate from short season lower level leagues and are pushing for them to become "Dream Leagues" or independent leagues. Sounds like a retraction of some 40ish teams, with most being in the east, but the Pioneer League is probably in some trouble too. Looks like the Northwest League will move from a short season to full season league.

My favorite so far is the Sod Poodles out of Midland TX

Apparently the name for a prairie dog.

I also like the Frisco Roughriders just because of their use of Teddy Roosevelt as their logo.

After listening to the new owners interview on Tootel & Nuanez, this sounds like a retail money grab to me...and an owner who decided to change something up for the helluva it. I'm paraphrasing of course, but as a graphic designer a few things stood out to me (note, I'm not saying my thoughts on each are actually what happened):

• New Owner: The initial thought was just to tweak the existing logo and the colors, but then they just kept changing their minds and finally they decided to do something different

- My thought: hmmm sounds like ownership wasn't really sure what they wanted to do, then decided to go in a new direction - irritating, because nothing is more frustrating than working with a client who "wants something different" but doesn't know what they want and provides no direction

• New Owner: Wanted to something that represented Missoula and Montana in a unique way

- My thought: ummmm an Osprey isn't unique? We have a baseball field next to a river, that Osprey hunt from, who have a nest built near the stadium. Is a moose really thought of as "unique to Missoula / state of Montana"?

• New Owner: Once they decided on the name, did a lot of work on making the logo unique, tying to Montana / Missoula

- My thought: I will say, they did a nice job with this. I think the fonts and color scheme are solid and the logos while nice - aren't my cup of tea. They have some nice ideas (the Montana outline with a Moose fishing), a Moose floating the river (cool thing to do in Missoula / Montana in general) and the execution was good.

Combine all those things - listening to the interview with the owner - without any other reasoning was "well, we just thought it'd be cool to rebrand", seems to me this is merely a $$$ grab. :twocents:

It is absolutely awesome. I love the funky minor league baseball team names. I had a couple caps I found from visits to other minor league parks. This name and the cap designs are right up there with the cooler ones around. I ordered mine last night.

The Osprey name was always cool but their logos, uniforms, and color schemes were always bad. As an Oredigger I love the colors and the theme/logos are mostly great (name is up for debate but it’s minor league baseball so this is par for the course).
