How about them Paddleheads?!

Mods shouldn't this thread be moved to the "Who the Hell Cares" file?

I get that it's related to the Griz…?
I get that it's FCS related...?
I get that it's about football...?

I read about half way through this thinking you fools were talking about a new brand of beer.
Now that could have stayed. On the other hand, this just needs to go away.

So you're saying beer is Griz related? FCS related? About football?

As a marketing major, I love it. I think this fits the bill for Missoula and Montana perfectly. It’s creative, it’s genuine, and flat out brilliant. For attracting millennials, I think this is exactly the change they needed. And when you think about the geography, what do people think of when they hear Montana? Moose! The logos are all awesome, the colors are incredible and totally fit the Montana bill, and the name is good (will take a little bit of getting used to), but for minor league ball, it’s nowhere near the strangest name out there. I’ve never really been a fan of minor league baseball, but I am now, and I think I just found my new team.

P.S can’t wait to buy all the new hats with all the sick ass logos on them.

IDK about anyone else, but I think it would be rude for me not to order this immediately. I think it looks awesome.

I too think its awesome...I have a strange feeling the majority of people who feel so strongly against the re-branding fall into a certain age group... "get off my lawn!"

Also, if people are aware of minor league baseball in other parts of the country, lot's of teams are known for having "interesting" and "unique" names.

Letter to editor:

Letter to the editor: 'PaddleHeads' is demeaning lunacy
Nov 11, 2019

OK, I get it. We're living in the dumbed-down "Age of Trump." Willful ignorance, blind stupidity and frivolous nonsense are the order of the day.

But still, Missoula Paddleheads? Seriously? Was it because names like Elephant Ears, Aardvark Snouts and Hippo Butts were already taken?

So now our noble Osprey will be consigned to history, to be replaced by demeaning lunacy. Nature displaced by cartoon caricature.

Curious that the new owners of the franchise should choose to start things off by making complete fools of themselves and insulting our community.

Don Spritzer,

Missoula

After listening to the new owners interview on Tootel & Nuanez, this sounds like a retail money grab to me...and an owner who decided to change something up for the helluva it. I'm paraphrasing of course, but as a graphic designer a few things stood out to me (note, I'm not saying my thoughts on each are actually what happened):
  • New Owner: The initial thought was just to tweak the existing logo and the colors, but then they just kept changing their minds and finally they decided to do something different
- My thought: hmmm sounds like ownership wasn't really sure what they wanted to do, then decided to go in a new direction - irritating, because nothing is more frustrating than working with a client who "wants something different" but doesn't know what they want and provides no direction
  • New Owner: Wanted to something that represented Missoula and Montana in a unique way
- My thought: ummmm an Osprey isn't unique? We have a baseball field next to a river, that Osprey hunt from, who have a nest built near the stadium. Is a moose really thought of as "unique to Missoula / state of Montana"?
  • New Owner: Once they decided on the name, did a lot of work on making the logo unique, tying to Montana / Missoula
- My thought: I will say, they did a nice job with this. I think the fonts and color scheme are solid and the logos while nice - aren't my cup of tea. They have some nice ideas (the Montana outline with a Moose fishing), a Moose floating the river (cool thing to do in Missoula / Montana in general) and the execution was good.

Combine all those things - listening to the interview with the owner - without any other reasoning was "well, we just thought it'd be cool to rebrand", seems to me this is merely a $$$ grab. :twocents:
Um a money grab by the new owners of a minor league baseball team in Montana? And that’s somehow a bad thing? Yeah right. So the nfl and the ncaa changing up there uni’s and throw backs and color rush every year isn’t the ultimate money grab? We are talking millions a year to the nfl and ncca, to say what 50-100k to these fellas. And you are hacking on them for being greedy capitalists? Dude the team and the league are teetering on the edge of insolvency. They would be crazy by not trying to shake things up with a new name and logo if for nothing else for the media buzz to promote the brand. What is trying to make a buck when it comes to sports now outweighed by keeping tradition? It’s his team his call get over it, after all ...we’re not communists.*

Ohhhh you sure got me. Where did I say I had a problem with it? I'm not hacking them at all. Their team, they can do what they want. I have no dog in the fight - was just stating my opinion. I thought there would be more to it than "ehh - we just decided to change it to make some $$$." I don't have a problem with it. I think your fight is with others that are full of consternation about this that rarely attend games anyway.
