Hopefully Good Enrollment News....

"Edit: Or are you writing that twice as many people applying this year versus last is solely explained by additional follow up with potential students?"

I'm not saying that's the case until Keila clarifies with some #s but when I read the article that's how I understood it and in all honesty it is a possibility.

It sounds as if prospective students weren't getting wooed so I could honestly see how the number of applications would increase dramatically with the University showing interest this year to the group they have been inadvertently ignoring in recent times.

Furthermore, now that I have used the word wooed, I can't stop thinking about that scene in the Deadwood series where Swearengen was drilling Wu on who stole the dope?

All I really know is that my retirement account today is worth 95.24% of what it was worth on September 30th of this year.

Are you responding to me? If so, my argument is that 123% means what math says it means. number of applicants last year times 1.23. Others here think it means number of applicants last year times 2.23. If the latter is true, UM needs to build another dorm.

I was going to attempt to determine how far along we were on the way to reaching seventeen pages but I've never played the math game.... obviously.

If we are at 4.8 pages right now would a 254.1667 percent increase mean that we hit 17?

I would say I'm asking for a friend but I honestly don't have a clue and would love to know.

(4/17) * 100 = 23.53% of the way to 17 pages.

By the way, 1 page equals a full page. So, we are currently less than four pages (unless this post puts us over the top).

It’s like timekeeping in soccer. Once we get past the 16 minute mark of a game, we are in the 17th minute. This is getting fun!

I love this. How old were you when you were born? were you 1 year old? Or did you have to wait 12 months before people said you were 1?

When people asked me in those first 12 months, I told them I was in my 1st year.

LOL. I'm sure you did.

I hate you f'ing people sometimes.

Not really.

This thread just got me through about 25 of a 35 minute march on the dreadmill. So I thank you all for that.

2017 6,182 applicants, 5,749(93%) accepted, 1,223(21%) enrolled in 2018.

So based on these numbers, a 123% increase would be 13,785 applications (give or take). 123% over 2017 would be 7603 applications. I'd like to know which it is. Pretty big difference to say the least.

Holy crap. it is 6182 * 1.23 = 7604. Quit messing around. There is no way over 12,000 people have applied to UM for next year. Just stop this nonsense.

123% increase versus apps being 123% of last year.

I KNOW, RIGHT?
I literally, like, think that, like, maybe some confusion could've literally, like, been avoided with different, like, phrasing to convey the point that applications are 123% of what they were last year, literally.

That is like a lot of alcohol wasted.

Note. I couldn't bring myself to write 'alot'. But, I know that would have made it more funny. I guess I'm a looser. :-)

Here's one for you psych. From Bozeman states message board, "Rovig out for the season" thread....

"Well if the game plan is to have the QB run for 1\3 of the plays, hand off for 11\3, and pass for 1\3, let Natee do it."

Hopefully Natee is better at math than Murray.....and catatac

Ha. Well, the 11/3 is why I'm glad I majored in Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Psychology at UM and not MSU. But, the realist in me suspects that this poster meant 33.33333 per option/category.

Is it worth 95.24% of its previous value, or is it down 4.76% from its previous value?

Sure. But can you calculate an answer without using 1-0.0476 in the equation? Hint. The answer is no an 1-0.0476 = 0.9524.
