Highlight videos?

Ok, once upon a time they were regularly uploaded on youtube and montanagrizzlies.com. Now, they are a real b#tch to find. Are they buried somewhere in gogriz? Completely offline?

Hell, even Alpha has stopped uploading his recordings so I got nothing to hold me over.

Sadly video highlights have apparently become a thing of the past. We used to find 8 min long clips on youtube for the longest time. Then it moved to a more all access with pre game and additional post game stuff which was cool too. Then suddenly the videos moved exclusively to GoGriz.com and shortened dramatically. Now they're totally gone except news clips. It sucks, I would love to still find 5-8 min long highlight reels.

Those highlight videos they used to do years ago were great! I loved when they included game audio, then they just did the clips without the audio. And then as you just said, it went downhill from there.

Here's what I know:

Most sports/entertainment entities no longer post to YouTube as you loose the rights of your material when you do (unless you have a popular channel & business relationship w/ them)

Also, it really does hurt your competitive advantage as a program to have too much video easily available to your opposition.

HOWEVER, I was involved with a website that edits conference gm footage & posted it to their own site. This CAN be achieved through good smart editing by people who have a football background & knowledge but few video people in marketing understand this.

What's really unfortunate is some of you got upset about Alpha's game/scrimmage videos and actually went to the coaches about it. His condensed game videos were awesome! Plus it was a super generous thing for him to do and you all went and f'd that up. Now we have nothing.
Nicely done egriz.

Has UM ever said anything on the matter? I remember when they said some sort of rights issue caused the clips to be condensed to 2-3 minutes

Well hang on - Alpha had done plenty of game clips and highlights of sorts with no issues. The concern that came up was when he recorded and broadcasted 10-15 minute long clips of drills in practice and posted them to youtube. A poster on here brought it up to the staff but before that they'd already been aware of and asked people to stop making bulk recordings of their practices.

Furthermore to kind of pump the brakes a bit on my first post I think there's other things at play here that tie the UM's hands from being able to make as many "highlight videos" - that being broadcast rights from ROOT. I would assume that's a major factor here, they might not be able to use ROOT clips and thus are very limited in what they can do. You can find a pretty good 8 min clip from last year's Griz-Cat game, but really no others.

Actually, last year's Gogriz.com highlight videos were the best that were ever done IMHO. That's why I'm stunned that after two weeks there's absolutely nothing. In fact, even the archives to those vids from last season are gone now as far as I can tell. Something changed dramatically on the All-Access portion of Gogriz.com. And in fact, all of those highlight vids from last year have been removed from youtube as well.

Broadcast rights remain with the entity that originated the content for airing. Once those copyrights expire then they become "public domain" but in this case it all comes down to the agreement between the parties directly involved i.e. Big Sky Conference, Root, Max Media & the universities themselves.

As previously stated, you risk competitive advantage if not edited correctly to only show the outcome of plays. Wide shots complete with formation (like we have seen in the past) puts our program at a serious disadvantage. Unless, I am mistaken & it has changed teams are only require to provide the previous two games of footage.

Dont forget that the Patriot & Belichek have the largest team fine on record in the NFL for having practice footage of opponents. This alone should clear up why no one should be posting practice and/or game footage without the approval of the program itself.

I am NPB & I approve this meassage

Every school in the country has to deal with broadcast rights. Which is partly why so many schools film and produce their own highlights. But also because there is value in doing so.

And you don't know how this college football thing works if you think game highlights or fan footage from a game is any advantage whatsoever to opposing teams.

Dude you killed it right here: "Every school in the country has to deal with broadcast rights. Which is partly why so many schools film and produce their own highlights. But also because there is value in doing so."

But crapped the bed with "you don't know how this college football thing works if you think game highlights or fan footage from a game is any advantage whatsoever to opposing teams." Yo have miss quoted me and/or taken my statement out of context.

With all due respect, sir fan produced footage & modern technology is exactly why theres this thing called a closed practice. Once again if film doesnt matter (from a competitive standpoint) then why are teams REQUIRED to swap it???

You owe me an apology...I'll wait!
