Hello from Delaware

4039? Really?

It was pretty poor, but it’s also under reported a bit so that the NCAA isn’t getting all the money. I’d say there was about 7ish.

The week before against Villanova we had near 18k. Unfortunately, the days of averaging 22k are probably gone for us.

We regularly sellout season home games (25,000+) driven by a very high percentage of season ticket holders, but very rarely playoff games which are not included in the season ticket package. Expect 17,000 or so but they will be loud.

We had over 27,000 for the MSU game.

I always say the diehards show up for the playoff games. The 4th quarter this past weekend was louder than any of the home games we’ve had this year which had a lot more in attendance. One of the loudest games we’ve had was 2010 against New Hampshire in the quarterfinals. Friday night game, probably around 30 degrees, maybe 10k in attendance (and this was when we were hitting 20k regularly).

I’m sure we are prepping for some major crowd noise this weekend in practice. We have some experience having played at Penn State earlier this year, though admittedly it wasn’t too loud once the game was out of hand early.

That seems to be the average for Thanksgiving weekend games, but I feel like it bumps up to 20,000 or more for the second round and beyond (unless it's below zero like Coastal Carolina).

The single best thing UM does is those football yearbooks.

Even back then we were kicking states ass all over like we do now.

Oh and Matt Wells is by far the greatest WR UM has ever had. Second is a distant second.

If Larson doesn't miss that extra point we win it all that year too.

Matt Wells was a good player, but he was not as good as Joe Douglas and not even in the same conversation with Mark Mariani.

Choosing the greatest ever is always a sticky wicket. Nonetheless, Joe Douglas was the best Grizzly receiver I ever saw. He was phenomenal.

Douglas
Wells
Ferris
Molden
Gurnsey

4 of those 5 have National Championship rings.

I have always been partial to Wells forgot about Joe Douglas who was another favorite I amend my previous comment. Douglas is the all time best Montana WR. What he did in 2 seasons others didn't do in 4 and he has a ring

At a Griz Cat party here in Oregon, Matt Wells passed around his NC ring. It was awesome just to hold. And yes, he got it back.

Wells/Mariani tied for #2, Douglass #1.

I wonder if chicken Man is still alive? Or better yet if he is coming to see us?

Hello Montana fans,

Well, somehow, someway we won today and will be making the trip out to your place. Here to answer any questions you guys may have about UD football.

Glad to see you guys back near the top. FCS football just feels right when teams like Montana are in title contention. Hopefully we join you again soon, though there are a lot of rumors that have us going FBS soon.

Won today but we’re still pretty beat up. Actually in my 40 years of watching Hens football I’ve never seen a team this injured. You’ll be getting our 3rd string QB who is a true freshman. We’re down our backup RB and seems like unfortunately our starter, who was second team CAA was injured again today. Down two of probably our top four WR’s, RG and looks like we may have suffered some defensive injuries today as well.

Hoping we can at least put up a fight and keep it close but being realistic, I’m not so sure.

Looking forward to watching from afar and seeing your awesome gameday atmosphere again!

Hey Hen... What do you think about Delaware moving up to FBS?

Yeah, I’m gonna guess closer to 21,000 as well…

As I recall, the Ferris State game this year set a new stadium attendance record at the time, though looking about I saw many empty seats. It became a bit of a joke the rest of the year for my buddy (with seats next to mine) and me; almost every game for the rest of the year, we would suggest they would announce a new attendance record, which often turned out to be the case. The eventual record was set at the Griz/Rival game. I just don't know how they count attendance; it seems they count tickets sold rather than bodies in the seats. In any event, I am sure the game this weekend will have better attendance than would have a game the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

It was time. I was hoping maybe we’d spend a few more years and compete for a title on the way out, as I do think Carty finally has this program headed in the right direction after the “lost decade” as our board calls it. But we’ll never know.

All the traditional powers on the east coast have moved on, and the CAA is really getting watered down. We’ve lost a lot of fans over the last decade for a variety of reasons, and I think this will help in getting some back.

Seems to me much of the movement to FBS has been Eastern teams: Georgia Southern, Marshall, James Madison, and now Delaware. Not so much in the West. Yes, there is Boise State and Idaho, but Idaho came back. And it may be the big difference is population: Montana has no NFL or FBS team so the fans turn out for our brand of football. In the East, NFL and FBS teams are nearby, making it more difficult for college teams to attract good attendance. We cannot evaluate our competition by enrollment; it has to take into account these other factors.

It is very logistical for sure.
