Hauck to Illinois

This isn't all that surprising, we knew Bobby wasn't going to stay out of coaching football. But like others mentioned, Bobby did say that he didn't want to be a head coach anymore. I think it's a bit more surprising the fact that he landed a job at a big10 school like Illinois right off the bat.
I don't get why people are all twisted about this.

Came out of "retirement" rather quickly....could have said "resigning"...but that would not have played very well.

I don't blame Bobby for leaving at all, I can completely understand being sick of what college football is.

"Retiring" so your new team doesn't have to pay a buyout to the team and program you love and care so much about? That's dirty! If Vigen did that you guys would rightfully be killing him for it.

If Haslem has any balls at all he'll pursue a buyout from Illinois. That $250k adds for us smaller programs.

There is zero chance Bobby didn’t have this cooking for at least a while. What you all should be, rightfully, pissed off about is that Bobby forced an interim coach on you and threw the players and program slightly into turmoil. It most definitely looks like he is settling a score on his way out.

Hauck was yapping in his retirement speech how coaching in today's college football wasnt fun anymore, how he didn't enjoy going to the office anymore and roughly a week later takes this job at Illinois.. guys a piece of crap.
Holds the new record time for coming out of "retirement"!

I’m ok with Hauck retiring/ resigning or whatever. People got the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness. My question is did Illinois watch any film of our defense the last few years? It wasn’t that long ago that Eastern and Weber hung + 50 on the Griz D. Couldn’t stop power running game. Gave up way too many 3 and long in critical moments! Anyway, good for coach Hauck and his family. Hope it all works out. Go Griz!
This!

best of luck to Coach Hauck in his new role at Illinois.. Him and his family gave their heart and soul
to the success of the Griz program. With gratitude, i wish them nothing but the best and
continued success.
When it comes down to it...yes!

I know it’s the job of the Bobposters to try to make something more out of this than a dude who didn’t want to be a HC anymore quitting and taking a coordinator job, but I’m just not convinced there is.

It’s not a “smoke/fire” situation like a coordinator drunkenly crashing a university vehicle, calling a “friend” for a Switcheroo, and then getting a reward. Or another coach getting a reward for his third arrest. Or magic vitamins that stay in players’ systems for 18 months. Or anything like that.

Bobby leaving is a whatever and not sure why people are getting so worked up about him taking a job at Illinois. Good for him.…..we all know the Griz were not going to win a title with him at the helm and so time to move on for both sides. However, if he takes guys with him it’s a whole other story. Not worried about defensive guys leaving but am worried about Ah Yat and Gillman. Those two are good enough to play at Illinois.

We can't rule out the possibility of a Hauck 3.0 era in a few years. He's just recharging again and this AD makes weird choices.

I'm not saying that I endorse or believe in this idea, but who knows nowadays...

100% agree. We’d be ROASTING Vegan for doing this.

Did he call it retiring? He said he would come back in another capacity besides head coach, which is what this is. Retiring was what the thing was labeled, but he clearly said he could work in a different capacity.

Again, if there's a bad taste for anyone, you're drinking from the wrong cup because it's not personal toward anyone here. Maybe that's a reason for leaving though.
Believe he used the term "retiring"...https://gogriz.com/news/2026/2/4/football-bobby-hauck-retires-as-montana-head-coach. But as you say he left the door open for future football, so that's that. My opinion would have been more accurate to "resign". Noting the matter with resigning, but it's sometimes associated with "quitting", either way he left. Darn good coach though, not moving on as a head coach, so maybe less of what he stated as reasons for leaving, good pay, a very good asset for any level of college, or professional football.

Yes, Illinois liked what they saw. They looked more. UM stopped power running game Mann times. You should have watched more Griz games.

There is zero chance he resigned to take the Illinois job. The timing doesn’t work.

Settling what kind of score?

Why would they want to play at Illinois?

Ah Yat wouldn’t play at Illinois this season, they have a returning 3 year starter at qb. At running back they had a running back committee with both returning so Gillman might not play either.

No way he could stomach getting hammered by vegan again so he took his ball and left. I guess they didnt see the eastern Washington game amoung others,
