Let me rely on my memory, again. When I was a younker, the student voted to CUT student fees, at least as far as the Athletic Dept. goes. This was after the 1969-71 Griz powerhouse teams. Most recently, when UM was going to add on the second tier to WGS, you know, the area with the bar hors d'oeuvres, and the University offered to add 2,000 student seats for an increase in their fees. The vote was a resounding 'FU!' Evidently, the students saw right through that ruse. I'm open to correction if my understanding is wrong.

This is what happens when you allow the inmates to run the asylum. Most schools don't get permission from the students to raise fees. After all, what student will vote to raise his/her fees?

Very interesting article. Definitely one-sided, when you disregard the fact that most universities are not getting multimillion dollar television contracts. If you look at most of the universities charging $0, they are all the top tier of the FBS.

Of note MSU is ahead of us on the list where 9% of their athletic fees come from students versus 5% at UM. Of course their enrollment is higher at this time, but charging $14 dollars more per student results in $900,000 more in revenue. It seems at this time that maybe the schools in the same university system should be charging the same amount per student. Of course we pushed for budgeting to be divided based off of student enrollment in our hay day and we’ve been paying for it for over a decade now.

I think you may have missed the part where they talked about creating cheaper entry level seats to make sure people are getting in with cheap season tickets, and that those suites are not realistic.

I did miss that tidbit. When I look at at post/article that looks like I'm standing at the foot of Mt. Sentinel, looking up, I try to run it, but I also tend to take less care in reading every printed word.

so you don't read every printed word... what about the subliminal ones? just curious.

The bottom line is that UM must increase its student fees. Students pay much less than their fair share when you consider all the benefits the athletic program provides students in regard to the student experience at UM.
