Has Williams even been confirmed to the BOR?

After wading thru some 90 responses to the thuggery piece in the Missoulian there seems to be some question as to whether the toxic pariah is still waiting confirmation? If true his removal would seem to be a whole lot easier than if he were a sitting member... :?: I'm guessing that the speculation may only be wishful thinking.

I believe he still needs to be confirmed, so people need to contact their legislators in Helena now!

Here is a site that makes it easier to contact State Senators to comment on Pat Williams appointment:

The committee that will consider PW for the BOR is the Education and Cultural Research Committee. The on-line comment form allows you to select a committee, and the message will go to all members. or you could contact the individual members directly:

Education and Cultural Resources
M, W, F; 3 p.m.; Rm 303
Peterson, Jim (R - Ch)
Jones, Llew (R – V Ch)
Arntzen, Elsie (R)
Brown, Taylor (R)
Driscoll, Robyn (D)
Facey, Tom (D)
Lewis, Dave (R)
Moore, Eric (R)
Stewart-Peregoy, Sharon (D)
Windy Boy, Jonathan (D)
Secretary: Elizabeth Whiting, Rm 321, (406) 444-
7363

This is a great opportunity to be heard in Helena. If we don't speak up now we will most likely be stuck with PW and his meddling, counterproductive ways for years. I shudder to think how much he could screw up the University system if given more opportunities.

He has not been confirmed by the Senate. Letters should go to the senators and governor.

This link makes it very easy to send a note to the Education and Cultural services committe. In the comments box, let your voice be heard on PW's confirmation.

Here is the link to contact Governor Bullock as well....

I am confused. If he hasn't been confirmed, why did other BOR members send out announcements about his opinions not reflecting theirs? How then did he, as some suggest, influence the firing of the coach and AD when he wasn't actually serving on the BOR? Or is this a reappointment?

I'm not sure Bigfork. I have wondered the same thing. I have heard from several people who I trust that he hasn't been confirmed, but it sounds like he has certainly been acting like a regent. Maybe since he was appointed after the last legislature adjourned, he has to be confirmed in this session? Someone else on here may know.

Sounds like Williams's comments have come up in the trial, Paoli has mentioned it in his questioning of the potential jury this morning.

I believe this is correct. Regents are appointed for 7 year terms by the Governor, and then must be approved by the Sentate. Williams' appointment doesn't expire until Feb 2019, so it stands to reason that he was appointed in Feb 2012, and has not yet gone through the Senate approval process.

Most BOR appointments are rubber stamped. Let's hope enough people contact those in Helena making the decision before they decide. Williams is a total POS, and his appointment confirmation would be a travesty

I'm fairly familiar with the process, and as several replies have suggested, Pat Williams was appointed by Brian Schweitzer as a regent and he is currently serving in that capacity. However, his nomination to the Board must be confirmed by a majority vote of the Senate in order to remain on the Board after final adjournment of the 2013 Regular Session of the Legislature. If there is not an affirmative vote, the seat would be considered vacant, and the new Governor, Steve Bullock, would fill the position. As a side note, it is important some Democrats be found who would vote against Williams --- as Republicans are probably reluctant to have it appear as a partisan issue, which would be suggested by a party-line vote.

If I were a Dem, I would be all over this, and honestly, I don't see a lot of political fallout from either side not wanting PW as a Regent. Why ask for more trouble if you are a Dem

I sent a message to the committee as a whole. I also sent individual messages to each of the democratic committee members as a democrat myself urging them to vote against PW's appointment. He embarrasses other democrats with his antics.

This may be the first test as to whether the Mt Senate and Governor Steve Bullock will do the right thing or just cave in to Helena's familiar political expediency. Will *Bullock lead or live up to his name :?:

* bullock n. dictionary definition: a castrated bull...
